Well, this granny has gone back to school to get an associate in applied science degree, information systems specialist career path.

I have a BS in political science so I was able to transfer a few credits but not many. I should be able to take most, if not all, my classes on line.

I just finished my first course last week. It was a Maymester class. That means, we do one full semester in less than three weeks. Instead of turning in an assignment once a week, we turn one in every day. Whew!

My course was Computers and Programming. It's mostly learning the fundamentals of computer logic and how to do Visual Basic programming. It included 12 assignments and two tests (which consisted of more programming). I got my final grade today. It's a 97.08, which is an A.

Tomorrow I start two courses, AS/400 Operations, and Basic Computer Concepts. This is Summer semester, so it's a little slower pace than Maymester but quicker pace than Spring and Fall.

We'll see how this old lady keeps up.

Ready to help me with my job? I write applications in VB and they're always coming up with new challenges for me. Well, most of the challenges are getting the data they want in the "format" they want. Thank goodness for the internet, where I get mos of my "training". :)

That's interesting.

I'm university student and major in Information Technology (IT), however UAB called IT as Information System that is extremely similar.

I took varies of computer courses, especially computer and programming course, I got B so many other computer classes, I got A.

Good luck with college.

It's never too late. :giggle:

One benefit for being a granny student is that my college offers free tuition for students age 60 and older. It's full credit and degree eligible, and for all courses. The only restriction is that it's for space available but so far it's worked for me. I pay only for my books (which are expensive, yes). I try to buy used ones when available.

the univercity to far for me to get to but would go if could..my thing is travel back pack but confidence is getting bit jaded these days

That is awesome Reba, wish you good luck with college. :)

I'm taking all my courses on line. I hate to commute (I already sacrificed one Jeep to the college), so this is perfect for me.

One of my classmates is taking the course from Afghanistan!

i sort of lost imperdus to do anything at the moment, wrong i know but good luck to those who doing something...just get them times in life when everything is an effort

I understand.

Hubby started his first class tonight. He was a little nervous about going back to school after so many years. He was surprised to find out that his teacher is not only nice, she's also a biker!

(For those who don't know Hubby aka TCS at AllDeaf, he's a biker.)

Is it community college or university?

Want join sorority?

Granny is joining sorority...

Oh I see, I don't think this school have one, except for RIT or 4 years institutions.
I've never been interested in joining one, even when I did attend (and graduated from) a four-year university. I've never been interested in "college life." For me, college has always been where I go for an education, not a social life. :)

I did join the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP).
