I just got google voice hooked up and it's pretty neat. So I just figured I'd share how I'm using it.
If you don't know what it is. In a nutshell it's a service from google that you'll have to sign up for. It's kind of in beta stages so you have to request to use it. You just have to send them a request and they'll send you an email when you're set up. It took a few days for them to set me up but it was worth the wait.
You can use your own phone number or you can have a google voice phone number assigned to you (I recommend this option). So you have this new phone number. You can connect this number to any other phone. Up to 6 of them. For example if someone calls this number you're home phone and mobile phone will also get the call. You can turn the numbers on and off all you want too. You can block any phone number you don't want to receive calls from.
Now here's the cool thing. It'll automatically transcribe voice mail into text. So you can read your voice mails. You can have them sent to you as SMS (Text messaging) on your phone or read them on line.
The transcribes won't be 100% accurate because they are made with voice recognition. But that will improve in time. But I like it. Definitely better then nothing and it's good that I can read my own voice mails instead of asking someone else to listen to them for me.
Here's what I mean by it's not all that accurate. I had my friend leave me a voice mail to test it. He said,
"Hi Ron. You are thinking of the king of clubs"
But what I read was:
"I Ryan. You are thinking of the kane of clubs"
So it's not perfect but it's a start. IF you've looking for a free way to turn voice mails into text then you might want to check this out.

Google Voice gives you one number for all your phones, voicemail as easy as email, free US long distance, low rates on international calls, and many calling features like transcripts, call blocking, call screening, conference calling, SMS, and more.
