Hello all, I recently stopped wearing hearing aids to see if I like being without them or not. I got new hearing aids few months ago and I'm not liking it. I wish they would go back to no bells and whistles but that's me.

Anyways, I would like to hear from others about their experiences of wearing hearing aids and then decided to stop wearing them for various reasons.

Downside for me is that I would need to learn to sign again if I continue to not wear them anymore. I unfortunally haven't been signing or reading them since High School or little after.

I am lucky tho. I asked my boss at work what he thinks if I stop weairng them cause I knew it would be hard at first since I will have to learn to totally lipread instead of hearing and lipreading at same time. He said it was my choice and however I want to do it, they'll work with me. I can see little frustration with my co workers but they haven't given me much problems regarding that. I am finding myself enjoying not having to wear hearing aids but there is few things that I'm noticing that makes it hard and would have to change those. For example, I ordred pizza today and I realized that I cannot hear the doorbell anymore. It's amazing how much we take hearing for granted.

Anyways I hope to hear from you all regarding your experiences and MOD, if there is a thread regarding this topic already, you are welcome to move this but I ddint' see it listed.

30 people has read this and no reply? Does that mean nobody has done that?

I only go without hearing aids when I am at home to save batteries and make my HAs last longer. I really can't talk to people w/o them. I would donate all of my HAs if everybody know sign language (ASL, PSE)

Why didn't you fight for a different HA? I remember the guy trying to push different kind of HA on me when I took my HAs for cleaning. I didn't like the new ones as it sounded so dull and I heard only mumbles. I told him that I don't want it and keep my old ones. They are just trying to make profits. Don't let them push you around.

I can't stand wearing my hearing aids at work because there's so many people around me and all I can hear is talking, phone ringing, doors opening, laughter, etc and it really distracts me. I only wear them at home when I watch a movie or TV or am expecting someone to come to the house so I can hear the knocks. That's about it. I like silence haha. I do good with lipreading and one on one talking so I don't see any need for my hearing aids while I'm at work.

I'm not. I know I could take it back and get it adjusted. Just tired of having to go there and etc.. buying batteries and etc. So just decided to just leave them off. Have had them off for almost a week now and I like it so far. Only thing I will miss is music so I might put them on just to listen to music once in a while. Other than that I'm getting along just fine without them

My son is the same way. He prefers to not wear his aids in situations where there are a lot of people or background noise because he says it is distractling and makes it difficult for him to concentrate.

Secretblend, I would say to do whatever makes you most comfortable. Only you can make that decision.
