Since my last ENT visit (found out a ci or something else will eventually be in my future). I haver purchased a book on ASL (Signing For Dummies, no insult intended just seemed like a good choice for a novice like myself). Also I am loking into formal classes, just seemed like an idea whose time had come ( I always had an interest in ASL from a distance even before learning that my hearing was going byebye).

Good for you! Learning ASL will help make communication so much easier. When I started learning tactile sign (PSE, SEE, ASL) before I could no longer understand speech with my Comtek FM system, it allowed me to prepare myself emotionally for the time I could no longer hear. Learning tactile sign proved to be the best decision I ever made because when I reached the point where I could no longer hear with my Comtek FM system, I was able to rely on tactile interpreters instead. I also found that using a tactile terp at my first AADB convention worked great because the FM systems the university gave us sounded terrible and as if someone were speaking through a tin can. Many of the HoH delegates who were using FM systems and knew sign were watching my tactile terp (those who had enough residual vision) so they could understand what was being said.

:) Good for you! I do suggest you to find some videos online (I believe there's one ASL video that's free that you can check out), as it's a little bit easier to visualize than a 2-D picture from the book. For example, it's hard to show the letter 'J' 2-D. Take a class as well.
