I just got a written report from my ent is the mail (asked for my records) and I have been told at somepoint in a few years I may need a CI. I already wear powerfull HA's and I have accepted the situation but was just wondering if anyone here knows of any other things I can do to prepare for the inevitable.

if i remember correctly, you said that your ent report indicated that deafness would occur in 10-15 years? if i were you, i'd start learning asl.

I'm curious, what is the cause of your hearing loss?

Most of the time there is NO way to predict what the out come of a progressive will be, or how long it will take.

the only exception to this is if a person has neurofibromatosis or otosclerosis.

The rate at which the bones calcify and stuff varies from person to person. Still can't really predict.

In the case of DPHL, Dominant Progressive Hearing Loss, which I have, it is incredibly predictable as it follows the same pattern in every family. Even still, I didn't follow the pattern perfectly.

...but it is still predictable to some degree. i know 4 ci users who had otosclerosis whose ent's were able to accurately determine when they would lose their hearing.

Genetic?

Possibly genetic, my mother had hearing loss but did not like to talk about it. The ent averaged out my decible loss from 1995 until the present and wants to test where things are every two years.
