Girl with autism kicked off of plane

Some passengers support Pilot's decision. I don't understand....was she having a bad tantrum? It doesn't say in article, and both were very COOPERATED when asked to leave due to autism. Discrimination?

The girl was getting upset b/c she did not like the food and her mother wanted to buy a meal from the first class menu and was not allowed to. The girl was making a weird sound on the plane , her mother has filed a
lawsuit against the airline . The airline said it "was not discrimination ,it was safety issue " The pilot did not feel safe flying the plane with the girl in it. I was wondering if was discrimination , it sound like it to me, but I don't think I would want to been stuck on a plane for 3 hours or more with a kid making weird sounds the whole time. I saw this on the news and take more details.

Saw the comment on the other website that relate to this article.

"The mom made a mistake when she threatened a meltdown if they did not comply. The airline crew needed to be more compassionate and better trained but when the mom said if her daughter did not get what she wanted she might become violent, it was a reasonable option to land the plane."

:ty:, I miss that part on the news , they CC does not always show everything that being said . I thought the girl already had her meltdown.
That was not smart of her mom to had made that threat and now I see why the pilot did not feel safe flying with the girl , I guess the pilot was worried about what other threats the mom would made . I don't think the mom has a lawsuit against the airline , I can't see it holding up in court b/c of the threat she made.

How about being sure that your kid regardless of disability is occupied for the long flight instead of making excuses or threats?

Her mother threatened the flight attendant that her daughter would meltdown and start scratching people if she didn't get a hot meal.

That kind of manipulation deserves just what it got.

Yeah , is was not really fair of the mother to bring her daughter on a plane knowing it would be stressful for her.

She should sue!

Yes, Dr. Beegle is in the process of filing a lawsuit against both United Airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration. She said the purpose of the legal action was to encourage the carrier to better train their employees in understanding the needs of autistic children.

yeah I gotta wonder if you had that kind of daughter why would you wait until you're up in the air to make threats? Wouldn't you want to talk with the crew first BEFORE taking off?

Or they can buy hot foods in the airport (post security) before getting in the plane?

I really think the mother is more at fault for getting her child kicked off the plane. She made a threat if she child did not get want she wanted she would have meltdown. Anything can happen during a 'meltdown' and that mean throwing objects or lying on the floor and crashing all over the place.
This would had pose a safety issue and the pilot had to think of the safety of his other passengers . No the mother need to learn how to care for her autism child better. And feed her child before getting on the plane or had her doctor written her a letter saying she needed to bring food on the plane .

I once with my sister while she picked up her daughter at school and I had my baby in a baby carrier that you wore in front , an autism boy was having a meltdown and running all over the place pushing into people and he almost ran right into my baby . The teacher were having trouble getting the boy b/c he completely out of control , so if that girl had meltdown like that on a plane is not going to be good .

Im suprised the mother didnt hsve a medication or something to help her dwughter cope with plane and all...
Seems some. Planning and foreigjt woukd of went along way......
But Lesson lesrned...

Good point, the whole incident just smells like a fake lawsuit. If you knew your daughter was going to flip, why not carry a few hot pockets with you just in case?

Surely this can't be the only flight where someone didn't behave well. I don't know why this is news, or why the mother is suing. Does she not know her child that well?

No this is not the first time this happen , I agree you would think the mother would been better prepared traveling with her disable child. I guess she was expecting she all she had to do was say my child will have a 'meltdown' if she does not get her way and people will jump.

I work with several severe autism deaf adults here in San Francisco. I know them very well. Most autism adults like to stay organized, and like to be same patterns with daily life I.e: Monday (art class, bring lunch - turkey sandwich) Tuesday (bowling, bring 2 pizza slices), Wednesday (library, buy lunch there) and so on. If things change, must communicate way before or he/she get upset. Mother should know daughters patterns with her daily life and know her tendencies so she should buy hot lunch meal before entering airplane to avoid having her getting upset.

I've also worked with both adults and kids with more severe-profound autism and organization/routine is very important in the situation and have worked as an aid on trips with them.
I know air travel is stressful but seems all the more reason to set stuff up so the person with the disability will have as much success as possible so I do wonder too if the mother planned well....

Yeah , I agree with you 100% , it just look like this mom is trying to made some easy money and I don't think she will get a wooden nickel . Traveling with any children taking more planning , you need to made sure to bring food they like if they're picky eater .
