With tears in his eyes, Governor Nathan Deal signed a bill that legalizes cannabis oil for medical purposes in Georgia on Thursday. ”For the families enduring separation and patients suffering pain, the wait is finally over,” Deal said. This makes Georgia the 36th state to legalize marijuana extracts for medical purposes.

The wording of the law makes it legal to possess up to 20 ounces of cannabis oil that cannot contain more than 5 percent THC. The sicknesses eligible for treatment are epilepsy and other seizures, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, cancer, MS, Crohn’s, mitochondrial disease, Parkinson’s, and sickle cell anemia.

Marijuana is still illegal in the eyes of the federal government, and recreational use is still illegal in Georgia, as it is in most states.
