Anyone familar with the recent law that came in effect in 2001 (maybe in NJ but I dunno about other states) I was lucky I got my license in 2000.

In case if anyone doesn't know what it stands for- Graduated Driver's License- a new law to prevent teen accidents.

I read the manual about GDL. If a driver has a permit, he/she must pratice with an adult 21 or older to pratice driving (that means they probably won't wait till they turn 17!) When they receive their license, they would have to wait a year until they can legally do whatever they want. I.E- drivers with GDL cannot allow more than a friend in the car (family members are unlimited), allowed to drive from 5am to midnight, not allowed to drive out of state.

anyone have that kind of laws similar to that in another state and share your opinions.

Recently, we got that in RI. I think it tries to prevent kids from doing stupid things while driving. I know kids hate it (I know I would) but I think it is for the better. I think some kids are not mature enough at 16 to get their license.

I agree with you, I would have said it is dumb but then, new jersey does have a lot of teen accidents and that's why the insurance is so high :-\ so it's better off having GDL

MD state doesnt have GDL as far as i know -- just still use the provisional license for those 16 to 18 and once 18 will have a full fledged DL but pix will still be taken sideways due to them still being under 21

never heard of a "graduated DL" anyhow but sounds like a good thing to have for the kids even tho it may not be looked at as "cool" by the kids due to restrictions and they DO need restrictions so they can get further training in driving

Minnesota has had that law since a little before I as old enough to get my permit (15, which was 4 and a half years ago.) But if you are 18 and have a permit, you can drive with someone over 18. I did that when I had my permit - i drove with my friend Lindsey (tinystrawberry) and then i got pulled over for speeding not long afterwards ;)

Anyways, i think its a good law, because many teenagers are inexperienced and lacking responsibility (yes i am generalizing) but having been a teenager in this day and age, i know. I know several of my friends who should not have a license but still have one nonetheless. Its a shame because most of them dont realize they endanger other people. (haha i shouldnt talk - i've been driving without a license/permit since last feb) whoops. =X Just goes to show how responsible I am

we have that in cali but if they are under 18 they have to be with someone 25 and older and NO other passenger in the car. you know how some teenagers do stupid stuff cuz peer pressure and lack of attention on the road while talking to everyone........ I am for it....but then again, I dont have to do it since it became law after I already got my license hehehehehehe

I know plent kids at age 16 in during my high school when I wa 10 grade. When I walk to school or to home. Many drivers are try hit me as "play around" as they are not actually going to hit me. how immature, they were...

About time!!! Heheheh...! My step son won't be happy to hear about that cos he wants to move to USA cos it wasn't required to wait 3 years before receiving full license.
In Australia, all teens and new drivers start with Learners at age 16 years and 6 months and stay on it for 6 months then switch to Probation license for 3 years then FULL License thereafter.
I was fortunate as I got my license when I was 17 in California...and had more than 10 years of experience in driving when I moved to Australia, so when I sat my written and driving test, I was given a full license -- bypassing the L and P. ;)

For the L's -- they're required to use yellow L on their cars and have a licensed adult over 25 with them....for P's...red P on their cars. :)
