"Seventeen years after recognizing same-sex relationships in Scandinavia there are higher marriage rates for heterosexuals, lower divorce rates, lower rates for out-of-wedlock births, lower STD rates, more stable and durable gay relationships, more monogamy among gay couples, and so far no slippery slope to polygamy, incestuous marriages, or "man-on-dog" unions."

I have always completely misunderstood the theory that if we let humans marry, were going to have to let humans marry dogs, or horses or furniture whatever it is that they might want to marry.

I'm not sure I would agree 100% that the decrease of divorces and so forth would be directly related to the legalization of homosexual marriage. But I do not doubt that in some manner it has contributed. But possibly I am just not making the direct link as to how allowing same sex marriage has directly related to the higher marriage rates of heterosexual couples.

but how can you be so sure we won't all be marrying our furniture? i myself have a sofa that may be with me until death do us part, and obviously as a depraved homo i am smitten enough to walk down the aisle with it...

In that case, I do have two female rats that I utterly adore! I wonder if I can find gowns small enough for them.

This is in Scandinavia. Does this really work in America? I don't know.

Out of all relationships I've seen... the ones that are gay/lesbian are the one that seem to fight more often. :dunno:

off topic: You have pet rats? I didn't know that. I have pet 4 rats and 3 mice here. :)

Sorry, back to topic everyone. :)

That is a lie...

Marriage is dying in Scandinavia, which has had marriage-like same-sex registered partnerships for over a decade.

European demographers and statistical bureaus show that a majority of children in Sweden and Norway are now born out of wedlock, as are 60 percent of first-born children in Denmark. In socially liberal districts of Norway, where the idea of same-sex registered partnerships is widely accepted, marriage itself has almost entirely disappeared.

Certainly Scandinavia's system of registered partnerships is not the only cause of marital decline. Factors like contraception, abortion, women in the work force, individualism, secularism, and the welfare state are also at work. These factors are weakening marriage throughout the West. Yet scholars note that many family changes that eventually sweep the West show up first in Scandinavia, probably because of Scandinavia's unusually large welfare state and its notably strong secularism.

Same-sex registered partnerships are Scandinavia's latest contribution to Western family change -- a sharp cultural separation between the ideas of marriage and parenthood. Even before the establishment of registered partnerships, many Scandinavians were starting to have their first child outside of marriage. Although the couple's relationship was still considered experimental through the birth of the first child, most parents did marry before the birth of the second child.

The problem with this system is that unmarried parents break up at two to three times the rate of married parents. So as Scandinavians separated the ideas of marriage and parenthood, family dissolution rates rose -- placing first-born children at particular risk. The growing Scandinavian separation of marriage and parenthood made it difficult to deny marriage to same-sex couples. Yet the creation of registered partnerships has only locked in and reinforced the separation between the ideas of marriage and parenthood, thereby accelerating marital decline.

I am still lost as to how legalizing gay marriage has a direct correlation on same sex marriages. Divorce rates are going to change with time, be it up or down or staying the same. I am just not seeing how gay marriage improves or harms the marriage structure.

Heterosexual people dont say "look at all them gays getting married! we should get married too!" So its not going make people get married more, and people dont say "Damn all them gays getting married, lets get a divorce!"

Im just not understanding how gay marriage is direct affecting the marriage statistics. I can understand it affecting things such as lower STD rates, less out of wedlock children, more stable and monogamous relationships with LGBT persons. But I do not see any direct correlation between legalizing gay marriage and a fluctuation either positive or negative.

The Population

African Americans in 1790 - 760,000 Denmark in 1790 - 929,001
African American in 1860 - 4.4 million Denmark in 1860 - 1,608,362
African American in 1900 - 8.8 million Denmark in 1900 - 2,449,540
African American in 1990 - 30 million Denmark in 1990 - 5,135,409
African American in 2005 - 39.9 million Denmark in 2005 - 5,427,459

So... Scandinavian (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, also Finland) total population
is 25 million people.

So why African American's population is so fast growing but not Scandinavian?

European American - 1990 - 209,873,879... 2005 - 171,416,452

European American dropped 18.3%

So in 2010... African American may be 50 million
European American may be 130 million

In 2020.... African American may be 70 million
European American may be 100 million

In 2030.... African American may be 90 million
European American may be 70 million.... HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to see this day... that we Black people will be the majority.

Empress - Ya waaaaaay off the point.. This thread is abt the gay marriage and u went off to the races, Back to the point, Empress.

I'm just saying Europe is a weak country.

And USA will be weak too and if Whites don't reproduce and
want gay marriage... then African Americans will be majority of USA...

And USA will be another Africa and Mexico and other poor countries.

USA is the number one country in the world.

Why would anybody wanna change this country...???

Scandinavian would need us to fight in war.

Why we USA wanna be like other countries, the third world.
