Our ASL classroom was packed tonight! People are still interested in learning ASL.

Hi
your ASL classes how many? students, it good learning A.S.L sign language, Are you tutor, just wonder what level you teaching for students Cheers Kaz

You know, I think this is proof that the Age of the Oralists is OVER! Old oral mentality was that Sign was "speshal needs" and that if a dhh kid used speech, they didn't need Sign. Now it's become a lot more popular as a second language for dhh kids. I even know of parents of UNILATERALLY dhh kids who are giving their dhh kids the gift of Sign! I really do think that the CI won't destroy Deaf culture, but rather ENHANCE it! It may make Deaf culture more hoh friendly (some hoh folks don't feel 100% comfortbale in the Deaf World b/c of Deaf extremists) and maybe then more parents of hoh kids will have their kids learn Sign, so the Deaf world and Sign will GROW!

We got 3 classes @ 8 students each. We have an instructor that was laid off from a local community college teaching in the classes.

We cant have any more students that at even 8 students mean 8 cars parking and we have just that many parking spaces available.

Richard, would it be helpful if you had another location to hold the classes, maybe in North Orange County?

We have been looking at a bank building in Fullerton as they have a large community room for us to use for free with a minimum deposit. They have a very large parking lot.

Intrested u teaching 8 students, i am taught 28 students their learned level 2, it large groups, Another tutor and I taught students same classes, problem students was bit confused we different signs big effect them. Ask you how long you teaching ASL and just wonder they going for exam. wait heard from you cheers

It's 3 classes @ 8 students each. Our teacher has taught and tutored ASL for over 20 years. And we're not using the level system at all. No need for exams as most of our students are business owners who want to open their markets to the deaf communities.

I might be able to arrange something else (free?). I'll let you know more next week.

Free is possible if you can find funding for it. However we pay the rent, the teacher, and the books and we have to pass them onto the students.

Lack of funding for ASL classes in Orange County is what we get from the Scroozenegger's Administration.

Richard - I mean we can possibly - not sure yet - provide the space for you rent free. I sent you an e-mail from my work address. I am not sure about this yet - I still have to work out the details, but my church is very interested because we are trying to do more deaf outreach and community outreach and this seems like a way we could mutually benefit.
