This poll is for friends, colleagues, partners and teachers of adults and children who wear CI. Anyone who knows one or more people who have successfully or unsuccessfully been implanted with a CI in real life. (parants of CI children have their own poll)

What do you think of CI? Has knowing someone with a CI changed your views? Do you find them any easier to communicate with? Please share both possitive and negative experiences.

I have two very good friends who have CIs. I also know a child with a CI as well. After observing these people for the length of time that I have, I think the quality of life has improved for two of them and probably didn't make much different in the third person I know.

In general, I support CI's, but I wish that sign language also be tought/used. There will always be situations in which the CI isn't used or can't be used, and I think that the person should have access to ASL (or other sign) if they need to use it.

I have 3 friends who is CI Users, One of them is my lodger, 2 of them we grew up in school together, but we all had our CI's in our adulthood. There is alot of differnce in them, their confidence is much better than before, speech improved, self esteem improved.

I have taught several CI users and have a few friends who are CI users.

I am with Oceanbreeze..I think CIs are ok as long as the children are exposed to sign language.

As for adults with CIs, their choice to use sign language or not.

I have seen an equal number of successes and failures.

Yea, to be honest, I get kinda sick of hearing about CIs because deaf people are not all about speech and listening skills.

Sorry you feel that way. On the other hand, I get tired of hearing the negative comments and myth about CIs as well. I get tired others who do not have CIs thinking they know everything about CIs.

I am deaf and yes I do care about my speech and listening skills.

U have a right to express how you feel and if u are sick about the myths of CIs, I dont blame you but it seems like I dont have the right to express about my feelings about how CIs are used to put speech skills as the primary focus?

If it was your right to comment about your feelings then why quote me?

You made the comment. I see the comment was posted in the survey, but you made the comment with the part about speech and listening skills. I responded to your comment. If you can be sick and tired, can't I?

Yea, u can be sick and tired. I am not objecting to that. I am sick and tired of the myths surrounding CIs too. I am sick and tired of both sides..I should have said that in the first place. :giggle:

The link is working for me. Cochlear Implant Myths & Realities

Try it again. I am not saying that, I never stated you lied about anything.

Then can you explain about me fueling the fire? When have I encouraged people to fuel the fire about myths of CIs?

All I have stated my experiences with chidlren with CIs and I have voted in the poll that I see equal number of successes and failures.

I have never encouraged any of these myth. However, one myth that I may not agree with...that they are in it for the big bucks. How does one really know? Would a dr report that they arent in it for the bucks be really honest about that? I cant say that it is a myth or not cuz I dont really trust the medical industry 100%.

This type of comment fuels the fire. For me, I do care about my speech and listening skills. This comment might not matter to others, but to me it does. This deaf person does care about the truth of CI, my access to sound, educational opportunities, and my ability to communicate using speech and listening.

Next time ask what I meant by that before assuming pls. You assumed wrong.
