I saw the movie " Osama " about a muslim girl forced by her mom to dress like a boy under the Tablian regime in order to survive and the things she went through in Afghanstain. She got a glimpse into the man's world. I am not sure if this was based on a true story but it is very possible.
I also liked " Il Postino " about the author Pablo Neruda who was from either Argentina or Chile and was very famous author for writing poems unfortunately for him, he was a communist and exiled to Sicily. A Sicilian postman brings the famous author his mail and he falls in love for a young woman in town and Pablo helps teaches him how to win the woman of his dreams. This is based on a true story.
I have seen so many foriegn films to numerous to simply just list and they are alots better than American made films in that respect.
