I have a Ford Explorer V8 1996. It needs more anti-freeze liquid. I noticed that the color in the liquid tank is brown. Is this only for trucks? Most cars have yellow liquid in the engine coolant tank. My father said that I can buy any kind anti-freeze bottle. Is he right?

I don't know much about it. My manual book states that it cannot be mixed with alcohol or methanol antifreeze in the coolant tank. I am little bit confused because my father said any antifreeze bottle is fine.

I hope that you have the answer for this problem.

If u say ur coolant's brown?

If it is.......u better RUN and have the coolant/antifreeze changed! But make sure u use Ford-spec coolant but it must be 50% coolant/antifreeze 50% DISTILLED water.

Green coolant/antifreeze is OK for the Explorer but don't get the orange stuff. The Orange coolant is for GM (Chevy, Buick, Saturn, Olds, Caddy, GMC and Pontiac) cars and trucks built after 1998. Putting the orange stuff in a Ford is a recipe for disaster since I dont think Ford approved that kind of coolant for their vehicles.

If I remember correctly... transmission is red, antifreeze is green/yellow, steering is brown, and oil is golden. There might be special color or your antifreeze is just too damn dirty. :dunno:

O.K. I will flush the old antifreeze out and dump it over my neighbor's backyard in the little woods. hee hee. Just kidding.

I will take my truck to a garage and have someone to take care of it for me because it is damn too cold for me to work on it. I cannot imagine how it got brown stuff in the tank. My truck has no rust since then. (It seems that Mother's California Wax products are effective.)

How interesting about the different colors for these different parts.

Thanks for your comments.

the antifreeze can be pink just be careful which one you can or cant put in to be safe and dont ruin the motor just putting in the wrong type of antifreeze.
