For those that believe in cochlear implants and their story why

Cured,,,,well first let's cure the hearies
Hearie sickness bad no good for them, DeAfie is natural better more healthy state.
We need cure hearie, make them DeAfie, then they see

Yeah I wonder the same thing. ha

oh hey thanks! this might be a useful article to reference for a research paper I'm working on for English.

My thoughts. CI's are for some folks, and not for others. I like my implant, I'm happy with it. But everyone will have their own individual results, some better than others; and there are those who are perfectly happy being DEAF with no hearing aids/CI's/whatever, and that's cool too.

It does seem a bit odd that "hearies" should consider becoming DEAF in order to get a Cochlear Implant.

Is this just computer "drivel"?

How does one become "self defined "DEAF"?

If your question is sincere which I highly doubt it is, I will offer you an answer anyway
It's rather easy really
To become as you state, "self defined" DEAF as opposed to deaf
Learn sign, learn our culture, use our language.

It's really as easy as that
That is how you do it
Now doc
Jump in
Sink or sign

Oh well: a "hearie" can be "self defined DEAF" by learning/using ASL- how does the cessation of hearing sound/speech occur?

aside: still bilateral DEAF since December 20, 2006-today.

Another discussion in Sociology

You are correct hearie people can be what is called culturally DEAF. Most of these hearie will be called codas. And it happens all the time. They will have perfect hearing of ocurse because the loss of hearing isn't what this is about
You've never met a coda who signs fluently before?
Go to the DEaF centre in Toronto a few will be floating in and out
They would love to share their world with you
Same goes with anyone for anything. I've met Somalis who were culturally Italian and spoke fluent Italiano. They in no way shape or form were Italian by race but they were by culture having been brought up in Italy.
Because culture is NOT tied to your dick or genes doc or your hearing
It's tied to language. And other things. Least of which is your body. I know you can't understand this due to some leaning disability and I accept that but that's the way the world works
Anyway.
A number of cab drivers in Toronto who are Somali will speak perfect Italian
Check them out
And know what a corno is and have lived and were brought up in Rome
Are they Italian?
How do we define what a culture is as opposed to a race?
Is there even such a thing as an Italian race?
So then though I admit and know full well I'm wasting my texts here with you again to answer your question
Yes any hearie can become culturally DEaF by learning our language and our culture and using our language and emerging themselves in our culture
Codas do it. Not All but manyGive it a try doc
What do you have to lose

What "codas" believe re DEAFness-no direct interest.

aside: I really don't need to consult with anyone of what MY DEAFness means to me.

Your suppostion that I have " learning disability" because I don't accept "computer drivel" is incorrect.

As for cab drivers here in Toronto who "claim/are" from Somilia can speak "italian"- no idea. I don't ride cabs -use TTC-public transit. I also reject Italians are a "race"

Odd: an adult "hearie" who learns/uses ASL et al becomes a "child of a Deaf adult".

Not sure which section of Sociology this can be "studied"?

As I understand matters_ most"hearies" are NOT CODA. Whether the Deaf parent/s is part of the "voice off" subsect- how "communication is actualized"-written? have the coda try and learn ASL et al?
aside: I am not CODA.
On the face of it-there is not very many Hearing persons with Deaf parents.
How they have "adjusted" to that condition- somehow they have. As for the use of Cochlear Implants why- would "they" be concerned for the use of them? If the "coda" was born Deaf with Deaf parents and they "decided" their child should be considered for a Cochlear Implant. Then the discussion "might" be "interesting"=Of course this situation would probably occur only computers.
What next?

No, but above you said there was... :laugh2: Italian is an Ethnicity, not a race! :laugh2:

Before you ramble on, please do educate yourself on the differences between race and ethnicity. I am ETHNICALLY Romanian. I was born into a full Romanian family, I speak Romanian, I hold dual citizenship between the United States and Romania... Boom, Romanian. I am not RACIALLY Romanian. There is not a little box to check on forms that says Romanian. :laugh2: Racially, I am considered white. On little forms that ask if I'm Hispanic or Latino I am closer to Hispanic so I can check those though I can also opt not because I'm an ETHNIC freak of nature! Not a racial one... :laugh2: Go go Eastern Europeans... Either way, race and ethnicity are two very different things, throw culture in there and now you've got a three way that's all sorts of discombobulated. They're all very different things.

Someone can move to Romania, speak my language, make friends ( I'll be friends with them I don't care! ) eat my weird Romanian type foods ( Seriously we eat some weird stuff sometimes, just being honest it's not for everyone! ) but they will NEVER BE Romanian. I will promise you I will be able to point them out like a sore thumb too. Doesn't matter, they will never BE a Romanian. They can walk like us, they can talk like us, they can eat like us, live where we live... whatever.... They will never BE a Romanian try as they might. You are what you are there's no changing that and people need to accept that. You are who you are. The same goes for being Deaf. You can learn the language, you can immerse yourself in the culture, you can attend events and make friends ( Again I'll be their friends I don't discriminate if I like the person as long as they're being honest and being themselves! ) but they will never BE Deaf... period.

CODA's... well CODA's are like that bridge in between worlds. They're not Deaf, but yes they're involved in the culture. That's how they were raised up. Their family is in that culture so they're apart of it. :) They're like honorary Deafies. :P They get amnesty. :laugh2:

Seriously though, people just need to accept what they are and need to love themselves and their own culture! Then they can branch out and stuff... Like all these people that come in here and post once... I love the Deaf culture! Oh really, you saw Switched at Birth, didn't you!?! You know that's what it is for at least half of those 1 time posters... I do have to admit, I like the show... :ugh: Dammit... ANYWAY! MY POINT IS BEING LOST! A-D-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
