Earlier, Jiro brought up diet concerns and it got me thinking- Girls, any of you have any advice with time of the month... it feels like i could eat a horse right now... I get enough to eat but i have urges I've never noticed before! (I'm mid 30's, no health concerns.)

oh I'm sorry... this is for ladies only... I will kick myself out. :io:

My mom lived might question my being a 'lady' and responding here haha but I'm not sure I'll be much help either. I don't get cravings usually, not even either time I was preggers. When I was preggers with my son I had the opposite prob, I was repulsed by hamburger, even the smell would make me feel like I was going to puke.

I do tend to get horse eating hungry sometimes though, but that has more to with intense work outs. I'll eat and eat, but eat the wrong thing. What my body needs is protien and until I get some I could evrything and still feel hungry. So it must be something specific you're body needs at that time, and until you get it, nothing is going to fill you. Hmmmm we'll have to research. I don't have time right this second, but now you got me curious.

I am past that age, and enjoying it, but did get hungry the week before for years. And I was told that one of my aunts did too.

Wirelessly posted

Consult your doctor and check it normal thing. I know for me, I crave chocolate and need to have it right there and then lol I get cetain cravings for food and eat it .

Ambrosia, you got me thinking. On a hunch, I consulted my ob/gyn and she suspects low body iron from heavy menstruation, has me on an iron supp til my next appointment. Great, just what I need at this point in my life! :(

Well if that's what it is finding out is a good thing right? :D Could be worse I suppose, my sister has to take prozac when she's pms'ing to manage her mood swings.

Meh, I hate that time of the month, I wish I had a penis.

If iron is a problem, iron supplements aren't really that good for you, long term. Try eating more leafy greens, spinach, etc all month -- it'll make you feel better than the pills and won't upset your stomach. :) It's pretty common for women though, I hope it's that simple and it helps.

I always want sweets and stuff but I think it's a mental response to feeling like crap!

I don't take midol or the other one, um, brain fart. Do those pills actually help any of you?

if you had a penis, you would have to deal with morning wood everyday and a frequent strong desire to use it

And use it I wood ;)

What?? I don't have a frequent strong desire to use what I have? :naughty:

But for the other questions....I've never used Midol or anything for my periods.

Yes! I have used both Midol and a prescription (sodium naprox) and they have been life savers for me. :)

I'm the same way when it comes to craving sweets (especially chocolate). Midol doesn't even work for me but on the other hand, advil works like a charm.

Jess - it also could be a hormonal change that affects your body. That is if iron is ruled out.
