I had someone express shock because I drive. She genuinely does not know any deaf people, so I understood her shock. She's never been around deaf people. but she's learned a lot about me in a short time.
Don't tell people off just because they're surprised you can drive or talk or whatever.. Didn't you guys ever think maybe those hearing people have never met a deaf person and most likely, don't know what deaf people can do?
Instead of trying to be sarcastic, Try being nice. I'm sorry, but if people express shock or whatever when I tell them I'm deaf, I try to be nice and talk to them, explain about deafness. and so far, it has worked for me.
