In the news and on the internet there has been some misleading and false information about the First Deaf Person to Solo around the World.
Gerry Hughes, a Scotsman was claiming this distinction. Charl de Villiers
completed a solo circumnavigation in 2004 - Charl de Villiers is the First Deaf Person to solo around the world!

Maybe it would be more accurate to say Gerry Hughes is the first born deaf sailor to circumnavigate the globe alone?

And de Villiers, the first late deafened to complete that feat?

At least in recorded history.
