The firefighters' union said protocol should have been to alert the entire house and run across the street to render help.
"We want to see justice done for Mr. Mills, his family," Quander said. "But we want to respect the rights of the employees. It will get done and it will be done shortly."
Now I experienced this first hand. There was a dumpster fire by my house, on the way home from the store ( I was in Highschool still) as I crossed the street and old man stopped at the sign and motioned me across, a girl looking at the firefighters didnt and hit the old man at full speed, which in turn hit me and threw be up in the air about 10 feet and about 20 feet in distance. Not one single firefighter out of 15 of them for a ****ing dumpster fire that one guy put out came to help me. Total ass hats !
The ambulance showed up 15 minutes later while the firefighters could save his life in less than 15 minutes. Oh well, I guess they don't want to be a hero this time.Maybe the firefighters were only helping people who were caught in the fire of the houses. They expected someone to call the ambulance to come and take care of the man. But still it would be nice if the firefighters would be helpful as they might have the tools to save a life, even if it was on fire but it is only across the street with no fire.
That is sad that the man had to die because of that. It was a distress and emergency cry for help not realizing that they should have call 911 for ambulance to get there on time to save the man's life. Life is too short. Dang.![]()
What happened to the old man back then?![]()
That firefighter, a new employee, apparently said he had to be dispatched to help
From your article.
Oh wow, firefighter's union is defending 2 firefighters who on leave.
They aren't defending him they just telling the SOP ... what they said means that the firefighters should have either got a two way radio and contacted dispatch to alert the entire department then take the equipment needed to the scene to help the man ... or if the department had dispatching capabilities to dispatch their own department and transport to the scene ...
as far as firefighters being on a call when something else happens it takes a minute to register ... point in case ... I was working traffic control on a MVA on a busy 2 lane road and while I has traffic stopped on my end a ford ranger rear ended a fully stopped car going 55mph ... the frame of that truck bent into an A shape almost the truck bed was over the cab and the bumper of the car was in the back seat of it ... I got on my walkie and alerted command already on scene to respond medical and dispatch to re alert my department and send 2 more ambulances within a minute of the 2nd wreck ...
there is a rift between those of us who are paid and those that are volunteer ... some that are paid firefighters think they are better and that volunteer departments aren't as good even though the training standards are the same ... some volunteer departments think paid firefighters are just in it for the money and glory ...
some firefighters are just cocky and full of themselves and are usually rookies and green ... as far as those 2 that didn't do anything and the man died is bullshit ... it was 15 minutes before helped arrived he was a goner they could have been there within a minute and could have saved his life if the heart damage wasn't extremely severe or blew out an artery ... they should have their jobs terminated ... but hes gone either way theres no way to tell now if they'd have saved him or not ...

That poor man!Just a little story of one of my experiences.
We stopped at a store for lunch, walking in there was a mobility scooter turn on its side under the front of a car parked at the curb in front of the doors, nothing unusual, didnt see anything but that. long line, long wait and back out the door WTF??? there was a 90 year old man in the scooter and people were parking over him, me and my partner dropped our shit and ran over, grabbed the old man and picked him and the scooter up and got him situated, asked if he was ok and all ( before moving him) he was ok but shooken, he got too close to the curb and toppled over, he said no one would help him and just walked by, people would park over him and say shit to him as they went in the store but never bothered to help him... he thought he was going to die there, someone was going to run over him. Now let me tell you this. This is in North St. Louis, all black area, and this was an elderly black man... and we are 2 white guys...WTF is wrong with society and with their own race as that? They dont care about anyone but themselves and I could tell you some stories you wouldnt believe as I have been in the middle of drug deals gone wrong, shoot outs...ect... My career was very interesting at time.
i not defending them but is it possible they were going to a call out and could see nothing could be done for this gentleman
