I've been visiting with my audi lately and every time I've been by to visit with him, it feels like he is trying to push into buying a set of hearing aids on me when I've barely started visiting with my family on the funds and everything we are going to go through with purchasing hearing aids.
I have a mid-frequency loss 25dB (mild) in my left ear and my 65dB (moderately severe) in my right ear and it appears it seems to be getting worse in this ear. My right ear has been ringing with our dear friend tinnitus so bad the last few weeks, he is saying that me purchasing a hearing aid "will stop the tinnitus."
He also wants me to purchase mid-frequency aids pretty soon to help my right ear but the one I've been using has not been helping. The problem is, the BTE I've been using to see if I like it, has hurting my ear so badly. I've repeatedly tried to tell him it hurts to wear the hearing aid all the time and honestly, I don't. I only wear it when I'm working or out with friends when we will be going to big social gatherings.
He keeps telling me I'll get used to it but I feel like I do just fine without being forced to wear it constantly. From my understanding (I could be wrong, of course), mid-frequency loss you may not always need to wear a hearing aid.
I've gotten a much better outlook my hearing loss but I'm still going through the phase of wanting to be comfortable with what I can and cannot hear. Is there anything wrong with wanting to give the hearing aid back to the audiologist and me tell him I'll purchase a hearing aid whenever I'm ready?
I mean, we've only looked at a few hearing aids before he jumped in and said, "This BTE here would be the best for you to wear." In fact, I've told the audiologist it is too loud and he told me it takes awhile to adjust to the hearing sounds again.
I don't want to be mean, but how I can I tell him it too loud without having to be a total pain in the butt about it?
Sometimes, I just think it might be better if I told him, "No thanks, I don't want hearing aids. Let me figure out my own views on this."
