OK so I am not great in ASL but because AR is mostly a rural state, I have been thinking about putting together an annual AR Deaf Meetup. Anyone can come, you dont have to be a part of the AR Assoc. of the Deaf, or an ASD Alumni. I think this might be a good way for deafies across the state to get a chance to meet and mingle once a year.

The way I would set up would be this:Note: not actual plans but an example ONLY:
Everyone is responsible for their own hotel rooms, but make it a 2 day event where we could have Hot Springs as the "host city".

Day1: Shopping in downtown Hot Springs, visit tower of Hot Springs, Duck Tours, Boating/water skiing/jet skiing on Lake Hamilton.
Day 2: Spend day at Magic Springs Park, make reservations to see CC movie as a group.
Day 3: Sunrise Church service with breakfast following the service
All deaf/HoH people including their children are welcome.

It might sound a bit far-fetched right now but I think it would be an awesome idea. Every year we have a different host city and we do fun things in the surrounding area. Like the first year it might be at Hot Springs, the next year it might be Van Buren, and the third year it might be Fayetteville, then Stuttgart and so forth.

What do ya'll think? Good idea, bad idea??

I like that idea! I have been to Hot Springs many times and it's a great town. The other possiblility is to rent a campground and have a week long camp fest for the Deaf, in alliance with Deaf Campers who camp in different states to fight for their rights for equal treatment. Would be cheaper than hotels and more fun. There's also a church for the Deaf in Hot Springs and they might be able to help organize the event.

I'm going to keep tabs on this thread. I've always wanted to go to Buffalo River, so maybe I can coordinate with this event and stop by for one activity?
