Favorite Bedtime Stories

My friend's five year old son wants for his dad to read him some bedtime stories. The problem is that my friend (Mr. Dad) doesn't know any good ones. Can you help? Which were your favorites?
 
Stories that similar to fairytales. Like Aladin or snow white.
 
a dude should have great sports bedtime stories such as history of sports.

My favorite bedtime story was: Giving Tree. I still always love that book.
 
Grimm's Fairy Tales book, there's so many short fairy tales in it and every of those are inspiring. :)

He could turn to Amazon.com and check out what they recommend for boys at that age and such.
