Sydnie (aka Beanie), a beloved member of our daughter's family, was put to rest this morning. She was a 14-year-old Aussie/border collie mix rescue dog. She was very sweet and had a tendency to "herd" her family. :) She will be greatly missed by them and us. She stayed with us often when the family went out of town, and we also enjoyed her when we visited them.

She was cremated, and the family took her ashes home with them.

I am so sorry for the lost of your granddog , she was very sweet looking dog. I miss my granddog she dies last year. I think it is harder to lose a four legged friend than a two legged friend.

i can see in her face that she's lived a long great life. RIP Beanie

Thank you all for your kind messages. I really appreciate them.

I don't know if they will eventually get a new dog or not. If they do, it will probably be another rescue dog, so not a puppy. Also, they are moving to a new house (same town) in December, so I think they have enough happening right now. They should wait until after Christmas when things are calmer. That's my opinion. They don't necessarily follow my opinion. :)

I'm so sorry for your loss :-( *hugs* Such a beautiful pup
Thank you.

I think about her every day. My daughter (who is a grown woman) would dress up Beanie in t-shirts, bandanas, and hats. Beanie didn't mind at all. When she had to wear the cone-of-shame to prevent chewing on her boo-boos, my daughter would decorate with stickers, like it was a fashion statement. :giggle:

Even towards the end, when Beanie had to wear doggie diapers, she didn't seem to mind them at all. It's like she enjoyed "dress up."

My Labs would never put up with that "sissy" stuff. They barely tolerated their collars.

My dogs hated me putting a coat on them to keep them dry. Marty will lie down
to make it hard to put his coat on . Wise guy!!

It's great if they rescue another dog. It's a good thing to do for the memory of the dog who died, plus when you rescue a dog, you save two lives.

The dog you rescue, and the dog who gets the vacant cage at the shelter.

(I like dressing my dogs too, and I hated dolls as a child! )

I think the loss of a pet is such a sad sad thing. I am so sorry for your loss! It is such a difficult experience. :(

I vote for after Christmas, too. I think letting a bit of time pass before we give a new forever home to a dog helps the family to grieve and helps the new dog establish their own identity in the house without being treated like a replacement... Just my two cents, likely worth less! :dunno:
