Family says police beat deaf-mute
Associated Press

LELAND, Miss. -A relative and a friend of a man who is deaf and mute say police brutally beat him when arresting him on drug charges.

Allen Ray Webb, 33, was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of crack cocaine, resisting arrest and simple assault, Leland Police Chief Eddie Johnson said.

Dianne Archie, a friend, said she and Webb were parking her car outside her mother's house when three police officers stopped them for running three stop signs and disregarding blue lights.

Archie said the officers approached Webb and began hitting him on the shoulders and with a nightstick.

"(Webb) was on his knees and they just kept hitting him," Archie said. "They beat this man for 20 or 30 minutes."

Johnson said an internal investigation into the arrest was underway and would not comment on the incident.

Doris Groth, Webb's mother, said Webb's injuries included bruises and swelling to his face, back, arms and shoulders.

Groth said after a court appearance on Wednesday, Webb passed out and had to be taken to a hospital.

"Regardless of what he is charged with, they are not supposed to do things like that," Groth said.

Damn, they have NO right to beat him up, they went too far cuz he passed out and went to hospital? Just because they are police and feel that they have power but doesn't mean that gives them right to beat him up til he passed out...mabye little hit to make him calm down but go too far? :nono:

Watch what you say....what comes around goes around. Don't go say he deserve it cuz hes drug sniffer.

I would like to know the whole situation. I mean, how bad was he "beat" and how bad was he resisting? Was he eluding?

Still not right for cops do to things like that, that's going too far.

Hrm..I wonder...A similar thing happened to me..I was riding with friends of mine in the back seat. There were 3 of teenager girls in with me in the car. Two of the girls were up in the front.

We were driving down the street and a blue light went off behind the car. The girl driving pulled over and then all of sudden there were 3 or more cars pulling in everywhere. They came up and grabbed me through the back door's open window and had the door opened. 2 of those girls were all hard hearing. One who were driving was hearing. They dragged me out of the back seat and laid me on my stomach with knees on the back of my neck. They finally handcuffed me and tried to ask me questions. I wasn't answering. About 30 mins later, they finally let me go and told me that they were sorry and said they were looking for a tanned 4 door car that had a man who kidnapped 3 women from Oklahoma.

I just shrugged it off and was partially glad that they had actually done the job good. I got a letter of apolizge from the city for that though.
