Fairfax County Animal Shelter delivers new pets via Santa and elves

I thought animal experts usually suggest people NOT get pets for Christmas? I'm kind of surprised that an animal shelter would promote holiday adoptions.

Maybe it depends on the geographical location? I know it's not advisable here. Not sure about other places, though.

Christmas or birthdays or anything else like that its not recommended to get any pets for someone, once the novelty wears off the animal usually ends up being mistreated, starved, abandoned or back in the shelter.

Our Rescue League is running a holiday promotion with $50 adoptions through Christmas Eve. We met several pets at the mall today for a special adoption event.

They only go to people who pass their qualifications check and you can't adopt one as a gift, but it is working really well. Several dogs were adopted today, and also cats, but those mostly at the facility.

It's our charity of choice and the theme of "Give them a home for the holidays" has been very effective.

An animal shelter in my state told my daughter they do not like to adopt out black cats during holidays and I heard the same as you about animal experts being against giving out pets as 'gifts' . I think this a horrible idea .

It's a myth that prevents deserving cats from being adopted.

Our rescue league stopped that practice several years ago and now any color cat can have a home at any time of year.
