JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A family on the Westside wants to make sure what happened to them doesn't happen to anyone else. Becky Edwards was playing outside with her kids while her husband was on the roof taking down Christmas lights.

"And we just heard this boom. It sounded like a cannon went off, louder than a gun shot," Edwards explained.

The mother of five says while in the middle of a load of bed sheets, her washing machine did something she never imagined.

"I would have never in my life expected a washing machine to explode," said Edwards. "I have the child safety locks on all of my doors, and I'm diligent about checking car seats, kids toys, everything. This is not something I would have thought about looking into."

Edwards shared pictures she took when the incident happened and showed News4Jax the damage inside her home. She showed us how the top had literally blown off.

"It was and the hoses were the only thing holding it together and the water hoses were spraying everywhere," she said. "It was totally sideways in the washing room."

Edwards say the force when it came apart shook the whole house. Pictures and more were knocked off of the walls all around.

"We have floating shelves in the bathroom with a conch shell on it and it knocked that off of the shelf and landed in the tub and put a chip in it the size of a silver dollar," she showed News4Jax.

When the shock Edwards says she started making calls to the manufacturer, and she decided to do a quick Google search, too, to see if this had happened to anyone else.

"I finally got a hold of Samsung at 10 o'clock the night it happened and I told them I saw that this has happened before and they didn't argue with me about that," said Edwards.

overloaded and wasnt in the house when it went off ballance. New washing machines are super high spin so the clothes are practically dry when finished washing and dryers have sensors when moisture is gone they shut down to save electric... so it seems more of a user error than product error. I know lots of people who overload their washers trying to get it all done in the fewest loads possible. New washers arent made for the overloading like older models were. and I hate the newer washers too, no aggitators, low water levels...ect...

Not good. I have a Samsung top loading washer. Now I'm afraid to do my laundry. :(

People overload the washer in my condo to save money and the machine is not spinning fast enough to get all the water out anymore.
I did tell the company that we rent the machines from that the dryer run so hot that there a burnt mark inside of it. I was told that was OK . I was  . I never had this happen to one of my dryer . Everything is made so poorly today and not made to last a long time.

people leave stuff in their pockets which causes the burnt marks... My son leave crayolas in his pockets... imagine the colorful artwork.

LOL! What mess that has to be ! I check my pockets made sure there is nothing in them . People sometime leave tissues in their pockets and don't clean out the washer and if I don't notice it I have tissue all over my stuff. No kids live in my building so we don't have colorful art work in out dryer. Thank goodness.
