Events for the deaf next week in Tucson Jan 16-21 - Tucson teachable moments | Examiner.com

Two interesting events for the week ahead in Tucson relating to the deaf are planned. First, a Performing arts program to empower the deaf and blind students. Second, a conference for parents and professionals: The Deaf/Hard of Hearing Child’s Journey to Listening and Spoken Language: A Workshop for Parents and Professionals.

January 19 marks the 2nd Annual Performing Arts Program celebrating the stories by deaf and blind students from the AZ School for the Deaf and Blind in Tucson. The idea originated with Richard Elias, Supervisor of District 5. Students write, recite or sign on video, their stories. The Performing Arts Company comes to the school with a trunk that “eats” the stories. Fifteen stories are selected to be performed by musicians and dancers in a Variety Show. The performers have to accommodate both the deaf and the blind, making sure both enjoy the play. It is worth the experience to come view this cultural event. . This Thursday, the performance is Open to the Public. Where: Berger Performing Arts Center, 1200 West Speedway - on the campus of the AZ School for the Deaf and Blind. When: January 19. Reception at 6:00 PM. Show at 7:00 PM. No cost.
