June 27, 2003 - Nintendo today announced that the rights have been purchased to make a television show or feature film based on the GameCube title Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Production company Hypnotic, which bought the license, will also head up development, financing, production and distribution of the television show or movie, according to Nintendo.
Eternal Darkness, which sold more than 210,000 copies on GameCube in the US, follows the unlucky paths of 12 humans chosen to defend the planet against an ancient race of evil foes. The title's story spans 2,000 years and takes players through historically accurate locations, deals with dark themes such as "magick" and murder, and more. The game's unique "sanity" system, which measures a character's sanity level and causes him or her to hallucinate when it dips below a certain level, remains one of the spookiest, most clever additions in software today.
"We are thrilled to once again work with Nintendo to extend this brand and its powerful story to the masses," said David Bartis, CEO, Hypnotic. "We are eager to get the project started and to leverage our relationships in both the entertainment and marketing worlds to propel Eternal Darkness onto yet another entertainment platform."
IGNcube will of course have more on the Eternal Darkness television or movie projects as news breaks. Stay tuned.
Hmmm...proably will be like "Resident Evil" where they don't cast the characters from the games but from the movie itself.
