Doorbell which sends photo of who is at door

Hey guys,

Im an engineer working on a DIY project...

It's a wireless doorbell which gives you the option to send a photo of who is at the door directly to your phone. The wireless doorbell has 3 modes: chime mode only, photo mode only, and chime/photo mode.

I'd appreciate it if anyone has opinions/suggestions for my "photo" doorbell project because I want this to be the best project I can make.
 
That would actually be a cool app to have. Even if you aren't home you know who came to the door ya know?
 
Sounds good!...don't even have to get up to use the "peek hole" in the door....What I use and have used is window film...(screen door)...just lock it and install the film inside...you can see outside the door, but they can't see in....
 
One other thing; when burglars look for a place to break into, they often ring the doorbell first, using some ruse, such as a lost dog. If nobody answers...
 
I'm making it so that it can detect if someone knocks also. I'm still developIng it, so it's not on sale yet.

Also, would you guys be interested if this doorbell only worked by sending a photo to your phone, without any chime whatsoever?

Also, what do you feel about using video instead of a photo?
 
There already is a product that does that..when someone rings or knocks on your door there is a lil monitor above the door and captures in video whos at your door and sends it to your phone ...I saw it on TV I just can't member the name of it

That doesn't mean there can't be others. How many brands of tissues are there? How many different TVs are there. Etc., etc., etc.

Perhaps biz123 will come out with one that is better (for some people, at least) than the one you mention.

Ok woah you don't have to get angry about it. I was just stating that there IS another product that already does that. This isn't a huge niche in the economy to get into so obviously he doesn't want to replicate something that already exists he wants to makes something that does more than another product. I wasn't being rude. And tissues and TV's are far more used on a daily basis and by millions of people everyday than this product would.

Perhaps he will come out with a better product and that's awesome! Maybe I'd even buy it for my apartment. All I was saying is that there IS indeed another product that already does that in case he didn't know already.

If the name of the product comes to you, please tell me. Thank you for heads up. Was the outdoor unit a camera/doorbell in one?

Maybe biz123 should find out more about product to made sure he/she is not copying someone idea or brand name by mistake.
 
awesome idea! that's something I would need too since I can't hear knocks most of the time! might need that for the entrance, and my bedroom too.
 
If it is an app with his own specialities like video and or pics to your cell it is worth it. All my hearing co workers would buy it
 
I think there should be motion-detect snapshot option in addition to a snapshot when the doorbell is pressed. I know this can be achieved even with a simple webcam and a snapshot comparison algorithm... but I thought it would be useful for:

catching snoopers,
detecting if the newspaper is delivered or not,
if there is a visitor who can't ring the doorbell such as kids or dogs,
(or in my case, people don't know where the doorbell is)
utility people who won't ring the doorbell because they are only there to check the meter

...etc.


I wonder if home security services like ADT haven't already made something like this.
 
The only question about snapping photos is how do you get the instant notification? Does it SMS a picture to your phone?
