Well, some may recall that we were supposed to have canine cruciate ligament surgery on my youngest Rottie last week, but we got a call at 10pm the night before, saying there was an emergency that the operating vet <for our dog>needed to attend to and would likely take most of her time on the day of our dog's scheduled surgery. So in order to keep the same doctor, we moved the surgery appt. one week forward to today and hub changed his work schedule as he'd taken off.
We were up at 5am this morning to get her there and were just leaving an area Target a few hours later after dropping her off and stopping to pick up more supplies for home - when the surgeon called and said they'd just done some new pre-surgical x-rays and saw some concerning bone density changes in the one of the bones of the <bad>knee. The previous x-rays done in September did not show this. They couldn't tell based on what info they saw on the film if it was just bad inflammation and other changes due to the ligament tear, or something more ominous such as bone cancer, which is very common in the breed. Doc. said we should do a biopsy first since it doesn't make sense to break open the leg and put all the screws and plate in there for the knee, and then find out that the leg actually has tumor. Hub and I are both very stunned and upset. So they pulled her out of anesthesia and hub and I talked <and cried> and then we finished driving home and and talked some more, called the breeder immediately and spoke to her, and called the vet back. So they've done a biopsy and we need to wait for about 7 days to find out what's the result of the biopsy. There is also a 10% chance that the result could come up false negative, meaning that it comes up as clean but that there actually-is- something there.
If the biopsy report is negative, we will likely go ahead with it. If not, then there will be a whole other set of discussions.
So we're still waiting.....
