I been using a Dog Forum and one of the member just lost her dog as he swallowed 3 pennies! The pennies had copper in them and this is very toxic to pets. The dog found the pennies in the couch , I wanted to warn people about this and made sure they do not leave any lose money around. This is such a sad story, the dog dies on Saturday and the vet did not tell the owners until Monday!

Yes-the pennies can oxidize in the dogs stomach releasing toxins or so I've read.
I've seen a dog survive after swallowing several pennies and a few nickles. When they were removed from his stomach they were black in color.

Keep change and ROCKS, especially rocks such as gravel out of the reach of a dog. I had a Boston Terrier several years ago that ate a rock. Luckily he passed it. Others haven't be so lucky...
