It's not a disease.
I think it's up to the individual and their age. If we had a child that was born deaf and we found a way to reverse or "fix" the cause, would I opt for that? If the child was still fairly young, pre-puberty, I would take the chance. Older, it's up to that individual.
I would want my child to have every advantage possible in life, period. But at a certain age any difference becomes an identifier. Becomes part of who you are and how you interact and look at things.
