I have severe/profound hearing loss and I got new earmolds . Yet I didn't notice they are vented . This causes fluid accumulation inside earmolds so I'll switch to standard earmolds .

I think vented earmolds are not suitable for severe and profound hearing losses

what about u ?

Never had vented earmolds for more than 50 years and they are generally not as suitable for profound losses. But I have not heard that vents will cause fluid accumulation

Can I ask why vented earmolds aren't appropriate for profound losses? My loss just progressed to profound and I am getting new hearing aids next week (Phonak Naida's) and I have vented earmolds right now. Am going to need to get new ear molds? Is there anything else you need to watch as far as earmolds are concerned for a profound loss?

I don't have vented ear molds. Mine are actually made to go deeper in my ear canal so I can hear better. so the part of my ear mold actually go deeper than others to keep my hearing aids from eeeeeeeing all the time :)

My earmold is cut in half. I got tired of it hurting my ear so I got a pair of scissiors and cut it. Wham! Problem solved. The only part is left is where the mold covers the ear drum canal opening. I don't think there is a specific ear mold for a specific type of hearing loss...but I might be wrong as I'm not an audiologist.

twice I've had vented earmolds. the first time, my audiologist was trying something different with me.. the result? constant feedback! ahhh! So he plugged it. My current hearing aid is vented too... another audiologist had it made for me, and I guess she didn't realize how powerful and loud my hearing aid is.. when I got the new mold back.. result was constant feedback EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. ow. The venting hole is plugged up again, even superglued into the hole (I got tired of having to replug the hole?). My next earmold, I'll be sure to tell my audiologist "half shell, no vents please!"

I have a needle size (literally) vent hole - but my BTE side is only mild/mod loss ...

what size vents do you have if you have them ??

If I don't have any venting I get "wet" ear canals and they get itchy

The smallest vent is used just to help equalize the pressure in the ear canal when moving from large changes in elevations or like in a airplane rising or descending. It does not modify the response curve of the sounds hitting the eardrum from the receiver. I just pull a little on my ear lobe to break the earmold seal briefly to equalize the air pressure. Larger vents can modify the frequency response and reduce the feeling of "hearing in a barrel" effect and provide some low frequencies reduction. One issue with larger vents is feedback and even if the hearing aid have a feedback reduction system it can reduce the gain and you do not want the feedback reduction system engaged all the time. I just learn to get used to having no vents at all. If you fine vents useful good for you.
I have used dampers in hearing aid tone hook to modify the hearing aid peak at 1khz. While dampers work they easily get plugged up with moisture.

No. I've seem the vent earmold before. 2 guys from my school. They wore it because they has an asthma.

I used to have much larger vents ... but about a week after getting the molds , I had them put vent-reducers in them ... the dual type of sound didn't agree with me, nor did the frequent feedback.
