Time for a new thread and something new too! The title says it all. (If it is a repost, please let me know)

I was wondering if you AD'ers have a favourite slang/comment that you regaularly use all the time?

For example, let me tell you mine :)

"Dude, don't you get my joke, no?"

Show me yours!

Since I teach preschool there are a few things I find myself saying all day.

"No!"
"Sit down"
"No hitting!"
"Gross, (kid's name insert here)! Don't do (insert whatever she/he is doing)"
"Don't eat your boogers."
"That's not nice!"
"Watch out!" (usually too late by the time I say that phrase, lol)
"You are so cute!"
"Awww - that's the reason I love teaching you!"
"Give me a hug, it's ok."
"(Child's name) You are so special to me! I'm so happy you are in my class!"
then I go back to ...
"Gross! Don't eat that booger! Use a kleenex! oh, no, please don't wipe it on ME!"

*sigh!* Phrases of a preschool teacher, every day. Every single day ;).

Must be a fun habit of yours, eh? ;)

I used to be a preK teacher so I can relate!

I dont have a common phrase I use at work cuz my students are older and have a strong language foundation so I use a variety of phrases with them. I try to keep it creative instead of the same old thing. Maybe the most common would be "Raise your hand first."

At home, it is the same what u said cuz of my 2 year old and my 4 month old puppy. I find myself saying "No" alll the time. :giggle:

Actually, Shel90, you're right. I should be using a variety of ways to say things, and use complete sentences whenever possible. I do try to do that :). In reality, when I'm in that busy, busy classroom - it's easier to do a quick, "No!" than to say, "It is not nice to get a booger from your nose and wipe it on the classroom door, because it can spread germs. Also, it can be viewed negatively in social situations" LOL.

One more phrase, if that's ok with JClarke:
"What's for dinner?!" That is a very important phrase, haha.

Any more additions is complelely fine with me! :)

I also teach pre-school but insted of saying NO! Dont, we change or way of telling our children in a positive manner. The rules in our classroom that are posted are not allowed to have the words "Can't, Don,t, NO", etc

If they are hitting instead of saying Don't hit or NO hitting. I would say "Use our nice touches"

If they are climbing on tables I would say.... "keep your feet on the ground"

If they become too loud I would say "Use your inside voices"

if they are running I would say "use your walking feet"

If they are picking their noses I offer them a tissue and tell them "use a tissue"

It has so much more results than telling them what they are doing wrong, tell them the appropriate behavior.

by doing so you are showing the the correct way of doing things instead of Scolding them.

It is pretty much the policy, For centers in Florida.

My favorite phrase...

I go boating with friends a lot and we would go on a river. Would be about 10 boats with friends and family would would holler at each other to

"Get off my River!!"

Jokingly to say , get out of the way LOL

I agree..I try to use positive phrases with my students cuz they are so negative to each other in social situations. They learned that from home cuz most of their parents never learned more than just the basic signs so mostly communication at home is their parents using those negative phrases. I try to set an example. Hope it will work later on...

I have "Deaf Slang book" Its so old book!!! I love that book :D Its sit in my bookcase! :D:D
