Insomnia have informations what cause it and there a cure for some people.

Most people will experience insomnia – the inability to sleep – at some point during their lives. Your nights don’t have to be sleepless or frustrating! There are many behavioral strategies for curing chronic insomnia, which do not have the significant risks and side effects of some medications. Drug-free alternatives are less expensive and not addictive, and often times will provide longer-lasting relief.

By examining the cause of your insomnia, and trying one of the many behavioral strategies, you’ll be taking the first step toward getting some much-needed rest.

Here are the signs and symptoms of insomnia:

Nighttime and Daytime:

Difficulty falling asleep despite being tired

Using sleeping pills or alcohol to fall asleep

Awakening frequently or lying awake in the middle of the night

Awakening too early in the morning and not feeling refreshed

Daytime drowsiness, fatigue, or irritability

Difficulty concentrating; poor job/school performance

Slower reaction times and diminished mental alertness; increased likelihood of accidents

Weakened immune system

Increased risk of depression, anxiety and substance abuse

And what cause it:

Mental barriers - Stress (new job, family or financial problems), poor mental attitude about sleep

Food, alcohol and supplements - Caffeine and nicotine (cause restlessness and delay sleep), alcohol (depressant; encourages light sleep but inhibits deep sleep), herbal supplements (may boost energy and keep you awake)

Drugs - Prescription medications often contain caffeine or stimulants. Over-the-counter sleeping pills often contain antihistamines that encourage light sleep but inhibit deep sleep.

Poor sleep hygiene - Shift work, naps, exercise or mentally intense activities before bedtime, eating too close to bedtime

Sleep environment - Noise, light, room temperature, comfort and size of bed, disruptive sleep partner or family members

Medical and physical obstacles - Illnesses, pain, depression, anxiety, menstruation, pregnancy, menopause, ADD/ADHD

Hope that helps.

I have a battle with insomnia. As I write this reply it is nearly six o'clock in the morning. I had yet another sleepless night. I do have a bottle of Xanax that will knock me out in a jiffy, but I hate taking those pills. They give me a drowsy hangover after waking. Insomnia has been a part of my nightlife for years. I also suffer from sleep apnea; maybe there is a link between the two...I do not know. Regardless, I need sleep but it won’t come. :(

ah I remebered I had battle with insomnia too from time to time can't sleep, even in college study so much take out lot of my engery. After I was done with college. I got pregnant and I didn't sleep too well in my 2nd to 3rd trimster pregnancy. So since the baby was born I get sleep on and off when I can. My daughter kept me up lot at night so right now she going through her teething stage. Hopefully when she get all teeth in I be able to get her to sleep longer and hope I can too.

I have it right now. For almost three weeks now. I might get 2 or 3 hours sleep if I'm lucky. DRIVING ME BATS!!!! Can't sleep, can't sleep, can't sleep. Geez Whiz.

I strongly feel that it is my Bi-Polar condition that causes my insomnia. I have also been very irritable lately- biting people's heads off if you will. I have even exploded on AD threads, including one very essential to me. Oh well, what can I do when I am out of control.

I am your typical mellow dude, normally. But this sickly illness is very bad. My mood(s) changes quickly. Insomnia may be a true product of my disorder. Maybe I need to take even more meds. I take so much now that more would be beyond grave. So wish me luck. Thanks.

I found out via YouTube that my insomnia is due to my mental illness. No wonder I have suffered from insomnia for so long. Check out the links below:

AquaBlue and deafbajagal, have you tried laying down on your bed (or whatever you sleep on) with TV on in the dark?

Yes Brain I have. In fact I have tried everything under the sun and nothing works for me. It's a chemical issue with me. Anything I do externally is futile.

Right now it six in the morning. I am having another sleepless night. Hopefully I will find sleep soon.

Yes...I've tried everything. No caffeine. No sugar in diet. Exercise. Bubble baths to relax.

I find myself constantly worrying about stuff. Weird. It's not normal for me to do this.

Also when a person was struggled sleeping, he/she might thinking inside his/her mind too much which stop him/her from sleeping.

Ah, some people like myself or other who suffer from insomia and go to doctors to give you sleeping pills. Sometimes sleeping pills work for some people. It helps me once in a while when I need it but I don't take them as much anymore. I am starting to sleep better on and off without the sleeping pills now days.

Various foods, herbal remedies, and alternative treatments have been proposed as “cures” for insomnia. While none are proven remedies, you may find that some of them work wonderfully for you. Since they are all drug- and prescription-free, and for the most part very economical, they are definitely worth a try.

Food and Herbs

- Foods with tryptophan, and the supplements L-tryptophan and 5-HTP. Foods such as turkey, chicken, milk, cheese, and beans contain tryptophan, a chemical that is converted in the brain to serotonin, which promotes relaxation and sleepiness. However, you need to eat foods containing tryptophan on an empty stomach.

-Foods high in carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are also thought to boost the production of serotonin and melatonin. Try a carbohydrate snack of cereal or crackers with milk before bed.

-Warm milk. Many people swear by a cup of warm milk before bed to make them feel sleepy. Whether the tryptophan in milk in milk helps you sleep or it is the placebo effect, it may be worth a try.

-Hormones and herbal supplements. Sleep remedies such as melatonin, valerian root, kava kava, chamomile, lemon balm, St. John’s Wort, and passionflower are often used to treat insomnia, but have not been scientifically proven to work.
