DNA Testing Dog Poop: Apartments Get Serious About Tracking Down Owners Not Cleaning Up After Pets

LEBANON, N.H. -- The manager of a New Hampshire apartment complex says she's going to test dog doo to help ensure that pet owners clean up after their animals.

The Timberwood Commons in Lebanon opened this year and already has had problems with residents who aren't scooping up the messes.

So manager Debbie Violette is going to use commercially available DNA sampling kits to check the DNA of dog leavings.

She says residents are being told Friday they must submit samples from their dogs so DNA profiles can be put on file.

Violette says she hasn't decided what to do if she catches a pet owner not cleaning up after their dog. But they'll probably be fined.

I am pretty notice people lazy on owner reason otherwise clean up, if supposed fines or increase ticket, ticket manager watch out because increase not sure, worst to clean,

they lots of complaint to property on house or area something stuff! many people frustrated because clean up on yard! I Notice it people too many, broken law is very promise!

Wow. Wonder how much those dog DNA kits cost?? I agree with the frustration; hubby and I are always walking around with plastic bags to pick up after our dogs, and it's not unusual for us to clean up after other people's dogs, too. It's disgusting to just leave the mess there.

Ditto...but we have geese, flamingos, ducks....and as far as I know, it's a $25 fine for the 1st time, $50 for the second...then ur asked to get rid of ur dog. But DNA?...Nope....Cameras where I live. So there is no way to "dispute" it.

The coyote is starting to poop in my driveway again now that I have new dog! I wish I could tell the coyote to stop doing this!! I heard about doing DNA testing on dog poop, some city is going it too!

This is ridiculous. I can see someone going, "Hey, I know it was your dog who relieved himself on my front yard. I have the proof right here, I had a DNA test done and it pointed to your mutt! He will get the gas chamber, I'll make sure of it!"

Not to that extreme, Banjo....I, for one, do not want to step into dog shyt, not even from my own dog. Some people do clean up after their pets, some of the lazy ones don't.

But going as far as to DNA...not too keen on that, it's actually kinda' silly, when cameras would do the same thing.

I think this is a good idea. This would help them track down those lazy owners.

I'm always having problems almost everywhere I go. Even though they post dog poop trash cans, people don't always use it.

wtf... crazy mad old man?

I believe the dog owner has to paid for the DNA test if their dog is found
'guilty' The thing I hate about this is that people blame keep on blaming the dogs and calling them ' BAD' dogs! The owners should called
'BAD" dogs owners! As it is their job to clean up after their dogs, it not the dogs job !

Why don't they set up a few security cameras?

Who wants to handle dog poop??? :dunno:

We keep the poop in our yard. We have a BIG yard and we clean up after our little dog because we hate stepping in dog shit too. Unfortunately I can't say the same for a lot of the folks where we live. I've seen several folks just let their dogs shit in the yard and the just walk on down the street. Most of the people ih our neighborhood have BIG dogs...which means BIG PILES OF SHIT.
Inevitably we have to clean it up because we don't want to step in dog shit.

But, I think this dog shit DNA kit is just...stupid. Like some folks said, get a camera...or else just don't worry about it and clean it up if it bothers you that much. Sometimes, shit just happens. LOL

I used to live on the corner of an alleyway where people would drop their bags of dog poop for garbage collection - I lived where twice a week people would bring their garbage to the corner of the alleyway and the street. Some would toss the baggies full of poop into my yard or hang them from my fence when it wasn't garbage collection day. That was delightful. Then I put up a friendly sign asking them to stop. They didn't. I eventually got a sign from the hardware store that said this home is equipped with a security camera 24/7 and put it on my fence. Dog walkers suddenly stopped throwing their baggies onto my property :) They were probably terrified that I would expose their dirty deeds on youtube. :D

Jeesh...is that mean that I have to rent bobcat to scoop up my Great Dane's poo??
