Heard that licensing between Dlink and Sorenson to manufacture the Dlink DVC1000 expired. Sorenson owns the patent on video codec.

That means you will have harder time to find DVC1000 in stores like Best Buy and Circuit City. Better hurry up and find them online elsewhere.

Nothing on their site mentions anything about losing their licensing.

If their license was lost, they'd either be selling off whatever stock they had, or they no longer would be able to sell it.

I did notice that Best Buy stopped stocking it. I'm not certain why, the only thing I can think of was that it stopped being profitable for them to sell. I guess that too many VP giveaways was eating into their business.

SorensonVRS has big plans after DLink's license expires.
I can't say anything more than that, but expect something
from SVRS this year.

Then D-Link can use other codecs instead of Sorenson's.

So? There are no other Dlink videophone products beside DVC1000 and DVC1100 since they are byproducts for Dlink when they manufactured for Sorenson. And if different codecs are used, the picture quality wont be sharp as compared with Sorenson's VP 100.

The future of Dlink DVC1000 is bleak.

So, qwerty, where did you hear this from? Nothing has happened yet. D-Link is still selling them. No license expiration yet, as far as I can see. Just another rumor for people to make you switch to Sorenson.

Naw. Fear and Uncertainty in that statement. Make sure you know for a fact before you make that comment.
