I believe it depends on the situation.
The fact that someone on the helicopter mentioned it to him makes me suspect it might be something that happens often enough that they are watching for it.
Is it Proper for a President to Render a Military Hand Salute? | Texas GOP VoteThe President of the United States is a civilian. He is not a member of the US Military and is therefore not entitled to salute. The military salute is a privilege earned by honorable service in the military. It is also a privilege that can be taken away. Military prisoners are stripped of the privilege of saluting. While the President is Constitutionally the CINC, he is not a member of the military.
I believe you're wrong , I have seen Obama step off the plane and walk right pass a solider and not salute him and Obama has done this more than one time. I this is a disgrace and embarrassment that Obama does not know act like our president . He is Commander in Chief and should always salute
a solider back out of respect .
This also sheds light on his treatment of veterans with the VA Scandal, cutting of their benefits of our military and veterans, closure of veteran memorials, and chewing gum during the 70th Anniversary ceremony of D-Day.
