Difference between a dome and ear mould?

I know I've just joined but I have a few questions lol and I didn't know where else to ask them. What's the difference between an ear mould hearing aid a dome hearing aid? My audiologist said that if your hearing loss isnt that bad in one ear you can have a dome in it. My audiologist said that the dome hearing aid is more open so you can hear more naturally. Is that right?? Cos I have a very very high hearing loss in my left ear and I hve a ear mould and I've had that for a year but I only got my right hearing aid yesterday and it's got a dome instead of a ear mould.:)

earmold=closed dome=open (that's the diff) I'm better off with an earmold since I have a really bad hearing loss!

Earmolds are made for the shape of your ears where domes come in different sizes and you have to try different sizes to get them to fit.

Earmolds are normally for more severe losses where domes are good for people with less of a hearing loss.

hear "more nautrally?" Meh...........My humble opinon try what works for you....Besides with earmolds you get to go all fancy with colored ones!

Earmolds plug your ear, so the sound produced by the hearing aid can't escape out your ear canal. This allows for higher levels of amplification.

Domes don't plug your ear up, so you can still hear sounds naturally in addition to the amplification provided by the HA. Depending on your loss, your audiologist might make the HA not amplify low frequency sounds if you can still hear them while amplifying the higher frequency sounds like speech. This is a pretty typical configuration for mild to moderate progressive hearing loss.

Interesting, I didn't know the difference either, good to know. I have earmolds.. :(

Don't you have hearing aids that go inside your ear completely ie you don't have hearing aids that go behind your ear?

Think you can only get earmolds with hearing aids that go behind you ears.

Being a person who has both (dome and mould)
Dome is giving natural sounds and things are slightly more clearer and I can hear the wind (or air?) and not feedback that seems like wind. It's more 'airy' and the sound is from the receiver that's covered by the dome (if that made sense?) so amplification is more natural sounding.

Mould: is where it 'plugs up' your ear (But there are different versions of mould, I have a skeleton moulding where there is a 'vent')

You can also get "Customized moulding" for Receiver in the Ear (RITE, dome) Hearing aids that cover the receiver part it still gives natural sounds but you have a mould instead of dome.

I hope that made sense?

is there such thing as a solid or closed dome so the sound doesn't escape but you don't have to get an ear mold. It seems like someone would have invented something like that by now unless there's some specific reasons why it's not a good idea. is there?

Yes there are tulip domes and double domes for just that purpose.

My hearing aids are BTE, I traded the first ones in for Starkey X70's in Purple pop colour.

Oh cool, much better. Purple is a cool color :)

I love these ones better, only two negatives I found is a constant static sound in the background and where I have glasses, sometimes the right ear gets sore from my glasses pushng down on my hearing aid. I really like the BTE style more and the fact I got to get my hearing aids in purple rather than skin colour.

I for some reason got creeped out by the old ones, but these new ones, not so much.

Why does the glasses push down on the bte? Put hearing aid on top of glasses. Also, if it hurts enough, get a frame with a slim bow.

I got glasses with slim bow because of my TMJ , and they also fit better with my HA .

I'll try that, but if that doesn't work, no idea when I'll be able to get new glasses. I haven't had my glasses/ vision checked in like 5 years and I really need to because things are getting harder to see even with my glasses on. I'll keep the slim bow in mind though, so thanks. :)
