~~~ATTENTION~~~
There was a workaround posted on how to use ICQ on the Sidekick awhile ago. Connect to ICQ®, and or AIM® in a single client! I did experiment my ole ICQ # logged into Screen name and password in a real AIM client on sidekick and then placed each contact into a folder named the person's nickname. i chatted with aim or aol on CSK, it does working magic!! Now you can also use ole or new ICQ # into a real AIM on CSK. then add AIM, AOL users to your ICQ Contact List and chat with them like with any other ICQ user!
* Works with the following versions:
- AIM: Version 5.1.3036 or higher.
- AOL: Version 8.0 / 9.0 revision 4148.4007 or higher
- Mac AIM: 4.6 or higher
**How do you create an ICQ accont? Install & Register ICQ.
you need downloading from Install & Register ICQ before you get ICQ# & pwd on sidekick via Aim client.
my via ICQ®: 89252596 on CSK! Try me!
ICQ is the HIGHEST MB eating memory on puters SO i won't EVER download that again its made my puter SO slow so messed up and i won't do that again! and whatever if its on the CSK I won't use that on my pager either all i want is just the sidekick with AIM and emails and WWW that's IT!
icq is cool but hate icq because once u lost icq and u have to start over with numbers to ask accept start over ... so forget it !!
I remember when ICQ was cool, until AOL bought it and then shit started happening.. ICQ and AIM are sister programs..
I found this hint a long time ago how you can in some limited way still use ICQ on AIM or AIM on ICQ:
You can log into AIM using your ICQ Pin # and Password instead of your AIM SN and Password. However when you connect you will not be able to IM anybody. But you will be able to join AIM Chats. You can also sign into ICQ using your AIM SN and Password but again you will not be able to send or receive private messages.
I talk about CSK that has it BOTH: ICQ AND AIM, Yeah all sidekick aim have icp, just type icq number and password and you're in it! So you can use ICQ normally with the AIM client. But the interoperability isn't in place. It's functional send and receive a messages.
It's a good AIM tip though.
knightwolf68 - Yeah, i see your point! but you forget click "MyICQ", then see "Save/Load Contact, then click which "Save Contact List" after you added it up in Contact list and offline ICQ. if it is disppears, same direction, click on "Load Contact List". it is soo simple!
javapride - Yeah you're right that ICQ is the HIGHEST MB eating memory! what about Trillian is Highest mb eat memory also? when i downloaded it from ICQ, then installed and added SN of people on ICQ's Contact lists. then i saved load lists somewhere in Hard drive. then deleted ICQ's Program off from PC.. it is very simple! :ily:
Anyone else seen this? If you do like experiment with, feel free to use mine ICQ#.
NOTE* Sorry, Not works with the following versions: trillian pro. because it is not update yet! wait and look update in future.
ckfarbes- thanks for the tip! Now I seriously am considering getting SideKick and use ICQ! I prefer ICQ Pro 2003b over [coughs] AIM.
For those with the banner issues- you could easily kill the banners (for ICQ Pro 2003b) by doing regediting or go to the allicq domain and download the anti-banner patch.
ICQ Lite is lighter than AIM and ICQ Pro. Allicq does have anti-banner patch for almost all versions in ICQ Lite and ICQ Pro. I believe that Allicq is currently moving to a newer server.
Yeah, it'd sure be neat if the people that started Marbillis (ICQ) could help AOL develop ICQ or start one similar to ICQ.
The newest ICQ version is better than the previous versions in the past -- this one you don't have to send out request of authorisations to add your friends on ICQ list if you've formatted the hard drive or un-installed ICQ for some reasons.
As for another remark I noticed on the thread -- about it being the biggest MB that eats through the cpu memory....I didn't know about that...but I've never had any troubles with ICQ since I started using it in 1995.
ICQ DOES eat a lot of memory.... but with some computers, it seems to be a lot more reliable than it is with others. It just depends on the computer I guess. Also, Waterrats is right, ICQ can save the memory of the contact list on its own database, much like MSN, so if you use ICQ on another computer, it will load up the contact list automatically.
Try this with http://go.icq.com coz it really does work. Some versions of ICQ is recommended for certain computers. Try an older one, might work better.
if anyone have PC Pocket or Palm mobile. You can get Yahoo Instant Message, AIM, and MSN Message. :mrgreen:
