You know that at many thrift stores, there are top and bottom tickets for many items. If bottom ticket is gone, that means item has been sold. Well, I took bottom ticket off 1 item, then shopped some more. When I came back, I saw a girl who was maybe 10 years old with her brother and parents. She had her hands on the bike. I lined up and got to cashier. I then decided I wasn't going to tell a 10 years old girl, "sorry, I got ticket first so it's mine." So when I was at cashier, I told them, here is my ticket. Let them buy it. Yes, I would buy it and just resell it, but I didn't want to be a scrooge with Holidays here.

Aww that's sweet. Too many people are selfish at stores around the holidays, very...grabby >_> lol

Wirelessly posted

You will be blessed ! Very sweet and did the right thing :)

And a shopper always knows there are more buying opportunities out there. There is never a need to be scrooge.

You're a real Santa!

reward in heaven.

I hope you talked to the people and they told you they made the decision to buy it, right?

When I was a kid, me and a few friends went to a department store. I found $30 in one of the isles. My friend snatched the money without asking and ran as fast as he could to the lost and found at the front of the store. He told his mom and she went to the lost and found about 5 minutes later and she was told someone had claimed it. To say she was angry would be an understatement.

Moral of the story: Make sure you KNOW you are doing the right thing before you DO the right thing.

Good for you.

The real reward is a heartfelt "thank you" or body language that expresses gratitude.

Did they acknowledge what you did?

Most of the time people thank me, but there are a handful that are truly selfish....

I did not talk to them. I was thinking, "I'm going to get it for myself because I claimed it first". No need to talk to them because it was mine.

It's just that when I got to cashier that I decided I would not do that to a 10 years old girl. Let her have it. I hope she enjoys it.

You're a real Santa!

LOL, not quite. The real Santa would have bought the bike and given it to the girl.

Edit to add: That's not to say the OP should have bought the bike, but it was more of a random act of kindness than anything else.

The girl got the bike she wanted because of Derek. He's a real Santa in my eyes.
