We all are on this road well, most of us anyway..we need to educate our self about who we are,to other people who we are our self ...at the end of the day we are still Deaf and this wall we have built up to say that oral deaf. Not apart of the deaf needs ..to stop its not most of our choice to be mainstreamed.I was put in special education and never learned the way I should of by no givingn me my .true language ASL now I'm learning what..t true deafhood is about and I'm finally proud to be Deaf...Your road won't be easy but never give up on our only true language we can always rely on parents get asl for your read child so they will love who they are...

No one understands what I'm trying to say or it just dosn't matter to you all I think Deafhood is important ,to the Keep Deaf culture alive ...

I am sure we know what you mean, but you are learning this a little later than most of us.

Good luck on your journey.

A few theoretical questions re" Deafhood". Is there any intrinsic "values" which "must be adopted" after one becomes Deaf? Is there any "consequence" of NOT so adopting?
Presumably one gains "insight" from the local Deaf community-if available?
Does belonging to AllDeaf.com "assist" this "journey"?
Is the "journey to "Deafhood" assisted by "becoming voice-off"?
I believe this is the first discussion here of "Deafhood"-
I don't recall any mention of this concept-Deafhood. before.

I think it has been discussed. Paddy Ladd wrote a big book on it if you are interested.

Oh No, Not again, Bill is off on his wacko ramblings again... :wtf::booty::whip:

A Google search: the book written in 2003 was titled: Understanding Deaf Culture-search for deafhood. 500 pages.

From brief "comments" seems to tie in with the "acceptance of Deaf Culture".

Thus the idea of "deafhood" is just "part of" Deaf Culture.
He has reams of Google pages.
