no not at all, ill explain, u know how a normal TV works, well there are hardware cards that allow u to watch TV on your computer, they have gotten rather good and most of the good ones have closed captioning built in, well this software snapstream allows u to record the TV on your computer, much like u record TV on your normal TV with a VCR

understand?

the only problem is they dont support closed captioning, even tho the TV card does, the software wont record the captions, very annoying

hope that clears it up for u

This has always been an uphill daily battles us deafies always go through. There's always a new company that will give us a bit of a hard time before the ADA takes over and set them right onto the path in having captions integrated into their softwares and hardwares and so forth. Just give them a whole lotta hell and they'll fold eventually. ;)

amen to that which is why i gave links for ppl to harass them :D

Here's their response to my letter (and my email):

We have not decided that they are not needed, it is difficult on exactly
how to store the closed caption information with the video files so that
it can be played back at a later date, how to extract the information from
the tv tuner devices (many tuner devices will not provide the information
or do not provide it in the same manner), and multiple other
technologoical tasks regarding how to handle it and to integrate it into
the product. We would like to integrate CC support and are working on it
internally, we are aware that it is required to be in all televisions by
order of the FCC but it is not required in all video capture devices thus
one of the problems with supporting it. There are several large issues
that we must first work through before we can implement CC support into
our product.

Dear Whom it may concern:

I was recently informed that your Snapstream product does not have the closed
captioning program that many individuals within the deaf community needs,
including many senior citizens, hard-of-hearing individuals (that's about 10
percent of the USA population!) need in order to follow the dialogue of their
favorite television shows and other televised programs. I also do know that some parents use the closed captioned features so that their children could
read along with the spoken dialogue.

It angers me that your company has neglected to install this useful
feature, just because it was perceived that it is not needed enough, even through your technological diversion does know exactly how to do it yet did not give it high priority.

If you want more customers, you need to install all the programs that make today's television sets great (the law requires that all modern
televisions have closed captions!). The idea that your administrative support described closed captions as not needed enough is very ignorant.

Thank you.
