How do you learn to talk because you can't hear words?????????????????? :dizzy:

(OFF TOPIC)
<-----------------------------I just made a 1,000 posts today - YAY!!!)

I hate it when I cannot hear announcements at the airport. It's about people with certain seat numbers that start to board the plane. I'm like "what seat number??"

1.) RUDE hearies who doesnt get the idea that i might be deaf in a line if theyre saying "excuse me" and i dont hear them the first time and they say it again and still no response from me then practically SHOVE me from behind just to get thru that REALLY pisses me off!!!!!! they should be taught to *tap shoulder* and :) "excuse me" and *point* then i would have moved to allow them thru gawd (this happened tonite at the store earlier :mad2: )

2.) hearies not get the idea that im deaf when i tell them to look at me so i can lipread and they still stubbornly look away -- that really peeves me all to hell and makes it worse by COVERING THEIR MOUTHS!

3.) hearies who seems to THINK its "polite" to talk in front of me and not tell me whats going on and think that i dont have a say to anything

4.) after i make a call via relay and i EXPLAIN to them to USE the relay when they call me back and ive provided them the damn number and what do they do qq THEY DONT CALL ME BACK ON THE RELAY! that also peeves the HELL out of me!

ive come across SO MANY idiotic hearies in this lifetime so far and im not going to be surprised if i came across THOUSANDS more for the rest of my lifetime

theres more -- ill have to think of more to list later

Let's see I have a list load of deaf pet peeve...

When Hearing people hung up the phone before I even get a chance to respond. that happen too often. :pissed:

When Hearing people walk away from me when I tell them I am deaf.

When in the airplane they talked about safely, I was sitting there clueless what the heck this person is saying, because number one I was far back in the plane while she all the way up front of the plane... Boy looks like I can read lips that far. good going.

When People call my last name at the Resturant after being on waiting list in the lobby, I told this hostress that I am deaf she was aware of it, But might have forgotten, She called my name like ten times, I was sitting there didn't even know she was calling my name until I saw this next couple went in and the next person after that, got me wondering how come I wasn't called yet? So I went up to her, she said I did called ur name 10 xs I said, well maam I told you I was deaf, to come and tag me when you call my name she said Oh I forgot!

When people use their voice to talk to me they yell instead of talking normal. that for some people not all. Thanks God.

looks like my page is running out of spaces so I will post more later ;) Good thread there Spicy Girl :thumb:

 Yep me too I go up to them in person and scream on the top of my lungs right at them, the manager always gulps and give me free meals on the house. I was like oh ok.. but still you need to train your employees how to handle relay call cuz if not, You going to lose me as a customer... that how it goes.. heh

Same here!!! lol i always get reallllly pissed off at those... argh... they annoys the hell out of me lol

though... it does get better after i started to use www.Hovrs.com... people seem to accept that much easier than regular relay

When I asked them to repeat their conversation and they tell me that they dont know. :pissed:

When I used relay and they tell me it was busy. But found out it was not. That really boiling me up. :pissed:

Cheri, I am in your shoe at the resturant. Often times I had to sit close to the booth waiting for the hostess to call my name and not be able to communicate with a friend. Cuz I was so focus to get in to sit and have a nice dinner.

I think it would be nice if all restaurants used the vibrating/flashing light "coaster" for paging people. Applebees, Outback, and many others use that system now. Much better way.

Mmmm....

I absolutely loathe when the relay announces to the person I am calling that they have a deaf caller - the third party would respond something like, "Oh, no, I don't want anything, thank you," or..."You have the wrong number, this is a private business." DUH, no shit!!! There WAS a time, a couple of years ago when I called and got that private business response...I had the operator re-dial with instructions to repeat the following upon someone's answering the phone....

"Private business or not, I am still a customer. I don't appreciate your approach on handling unknown ways in which a deaf caller can get through to your offices...I suggest you become familiar with the relay service, or at least LISTEN to what the operators are telling you before you fucking hang up the phone. Now, MAY I SPEAK TO YOUR FUCKING SUPERVISOR????"

I also hate when people talk to me from behind me. Yes, hearing folks can't help it sometimes, especially when their exposure to the deaf is limited...but still...you don't push people out of your way and assume they are ignoring you if they don't respond to "excuse me." Good one, Fly Free.

I also cannot stand when there are times where I can't understand someone...they'll turn to one of my KIDS. "Tell your Mommy...." UGH. OMG, my blood was boiling last time that happened. My daughter is always willing to help, though. LOL. Makes her feel mature, so maybe it's not so bad? :)

Telemarketers. They call, and call, and call. It's probably more of a general pet peeve than it is a deaf pet peeve...but I do have a son who is more than willing to tell 'em to "stop calling here, you fucking idiot."

I hate the "deaf and dumb" reference or connection. This IS only the case with very few deaf people...some of which I can personally name. However, there are many, many very intelligent and highly articulate deaf people out there, some that I am very very proud to know.

I can't stand when there are no closed captions available on old TV shows or at movie theaters. I think every single theater should have at least one captioned showing per evening. It would raise sales, I believe....and the captions could always be placed at the bottom of the screens so that it wouldn't bother people who go "for the visual pleasure of it." :dunno:

I hate this question - "What kind of music do you listen to?" Helloooo??? I am DEAF. I don't appreciate music! I do however like to crank up whatever has a good beat - could be a lousy ass song for all I know, but as long as I can follow the beats and predict them, I like it. I don't have a preference as to singer, song, type of music... :dunno: I have a CI, too. Makes no difference as of yet.

"What kind of accent is that? What language are you speaking?" Ever get this one? LOL. Imagine the face on this guy when I say, "It's a heavy British accent, with a little bit of deaf." Yeah, you can probably imagine. "HUH???"

There are more, but I'll add 'em later if I think of some. :)

 Malfoyish...

You just remind me.. I do remember the phone call I called to a JUnk yard place for my dad.. Cuz he was at work and he asked me to call for the door parts etc so I said Ok... when I made a call AT First they hung up. then they were kinda rude when We explained relay then said OK I will take the call.. so I explained what we need.. he said Ok call back in 1 hour have your father call us back in 1 hour.. Hung up.. *sigh* so I called dad and told him.. Dad said I can't call him back I will be meeting new customer in about 45 min so please call them in hour for me ok ? I said Sure no problem.. So in respect FOR my dad I called back 1 hour later. the guy answer and said " I though I told you to have your father call me back" hung up on me.. I was BOILED UP! I told opr to call back ONCE he answer DO NOT say anything Not a "this is relay call" LET ME speak from the Moment he answer phone you just type GA! She said Ok.. so she redial.. phone rang.. 3 ring. He answer "hello. Falmouth auto Junk" I said " Hello, you fuck Head, You have No reason to hung up on Me, MY Father asked me to CALL for him because He was too busy with a customer, Whether you like it or not.. We may be your customer if you had the part, DO you want to make some money ? Then don't fuck around with me.. You asswipe" I hung up.. I couldn't stand with that business! since He just showed me the true of him. I ws sooo pissed hehe soo Then I finally found another place.. so We drove 2 HOURS away from our home to pick up the PARTS! Poor dad.. I told him Dad said "GOOD FOR YOU and I wouldn't want go to that place either.. He's not nice to you!"

Hehe...

Anyway... ok for everyone

Deaf peeves.. Woohoo. so many.. know what I will be back after giving my son a bath..

For deaf people themselves it would be acting deaf and dumb when they're capable of doing something/answering that was asked- thats one of my pet peeves

Second relating to hearing to deaf, I hate it when hearing people say deaf cannot drive stick.... :o That totally pisses me off.

ok im back...

my son had to take meds too..

No back to this topic..

My husband AND I feel that few people doesn't realized that I can do almost anything! Most of time they would turn to my husband "tell your wife" Blah blah..
My husband looked at me and then looked back to the person " Have you try speak to her ?" they just would look confused.. I often get tired when they ASK him something for me.. AND My daughter (like malfoyish).. I often remind my daughter Please don't I know you want to Help too! (hehe).. Her doctor Even agree with me..

Anyway Another thing.. when I used to work in Garage at Sears years ago! I was Mechanic.. Few customer would come up to me and asked me something so I reply back to them They said "ok.. you understand me?" I said "yes I do understand you, and Do you understand me ?" They said " oh ok" then I would be working on car, the saleman or the service asst. manager/Manger would come up to me "The customer wants me to make sure you understood what he/she was trying to say" I told them " geez don't they have a life? I ain't dumb! I understood and I repeat to the manager/salement ON What the customer said" They said Oh ok you do Understand.. (it was in first few weeks they didn't realized till they realized that I DO UNDERSTOOD) so.. Then when customer goes up to them.. they would reply back to customer "trust us, She understood you, and know what to do too!" I worked there for like 3 years! gimme a break LOL there was few Old old couple that would Accused me that I SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING!!!!!! so I often remind them "You bring your car here for Oil change I am here to do that.. you can watch thru the door to make sure your car is safe!" I have had never had any damage to their cars! they never complained that their car broken down for 3 years!!

Ok on that phone call that was ONE TIME that ever happen... so These language I mention.. pardon me!

Few of doctors Office does that to me.. Most of time I show up in their office and ask for the person who answer the phone.. She would come up to me and I would explain to her/him "Don't you ever hang up on me!" She/He would look so puzzled and they would said " I would never hang up on you" I said Recongize the name Mass Relay service ?? SHe/He said "omg Im very sorry I though it was a telemarketing.. Blah gimme a break! Hehe..

I have had my share of people hanging up on me when I was using the Relay Services. Just recently (yesterday), a student left a message for us to call her about scheduling for lab time, so I tried 3 times to call, only to be hung up all three times. I think that is much more worse than these other times, 'cos these people should know better since they asked me to call them. Oh well...

When my flight from Canada to SLC was canceled , I tried to call my bf's work to let him know, and I was hung up two times. I was furious, so I wrote an email to the woman who hung up on me as well as her supervisor, since I know them through my bf. So, I received an email from the supervisor apologising and she made sure that everyone in the department knew about it so that they would not mistreat any relay calls in the future. I was glad to "educate" them in some way about that.

I'm tired of going to interviews, only to hear people say: "Oh you are deaf? We did not know that." I reply: "Why do you think I have ASL as one of my primary languages on my resume then?" They usually reply that they did not even know what ASL meant!

This past week was the diversity week, and my department did a theme on the bulletin board talking about the diversity of staff. One paper said: :"Did you know that our staff can speak these languages?" and under it was "sign language." I informed the secretary that she was incorrect, and that SL is not international. I know three sign languages: ASL, LSF and DGS. So she changed it to include American Sign Language, French Sign Language and German Sign Language. She was like "I didn't know SL wasn't international." Then I pointed it out to her that she had this paper with a short history on ASL mentioning French Sign Language, and she was like oh! I never took notice of that. Oh well...

Another pet peeve is when I see some deaf people begging for money on trains and so on.

Whenever people say "Tell him..." I reply back with "Tell him/her..." and make sure that the interpreter says that to them. If they do not react, then I tell them that it is not a good idea to say "tell him..." Just forgot that the interpreter is there and talk to me as if I was a hearing person.

I have to admit that in Utah, many young people are very receptive about deaf people, however a lot of older Utahns are very close minded about deafies. My pet peeve is when some hearing people think that I need a person to supervise all what I am doing. That happened with my job at the hospital, and the woman tried to tell me step by step what to do. It got on my nerves, and I said I know! Then I started to do stuff and ignoring her. Suddenly, she grabbed me by my arms and hold me close to her, to see her face to see what she said. I got so mad, so I pushed her off and went down to supervisor's office. I told my supervisor what happened and said it was totally stupid to do that. She treats me as if I am mentally retarded or somehting, not knowing what to do next, etc... and there is no need to hold me to her, etc... So they realised that I was very independent and can do anything on my own so left me alone to do whatever I wanted.

I did not see that at Applebees. What does it look like?

Ok More of my Deaf pet peeves....

When Deaf people say they cannot work because they cannot hear.

When Hearing people who say that Deaf people shouldn't drive because they cannot hear.

When hearing people talk to you and you didn't respond back, they say you either ingoring them, or you just plain rude.

When Movies Theaters do not appear to have close caption while watching the movie out theater.

Cheri, it is an approximately 4 inch square by about half inch thick, usually black plastic thingy and it also has blinking lights. You go in and make a reservation and the hostess will give you one of these things and when it is your turn to be called, it will vibrate. All of the ones I've handled vibrate powerfully.......
