There was recently a Deaf Expo in Rochester last Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm in the Henrietta Dome.

I found out at the last minute during a program I hosted the night before. My boss came to me and told me that he was going to this event and I'm like, "Huh? Tomorrow!? I'm gonna go!" So, I went. This was my first time to any "huge" deaf-related event. I've gone to small deaf fairs at NTID during the beginning of each year. Those small fairs at NTID usually have a few tables selling alarm clocks, NTID clothing, and advertise relay services, etc.

However, this Deaf Expo was big... for me. They had booths for various relay services, insurance services, sex services, decoration, accessories, pager stuff, mobile devices, books, childrens stuff, health drinks, etc.

I signed up for 3 raffles and lost all of them. I later found out that they had 6 raffles. Damn, I missed the other 3. In a way, I was happy I didn't try those raffles since the prizes were a coffee tray set (mini coffee pitcher, creamer pitcher, sugar cup, spoon, etc). Some of the good prizes were 52" television, round-trip plane ticket (only 1? should be 2!), DVD player, alarm clock, $50 certificates, etc.

The 52" television thing was something I wish I knew about. On Thursday night before this expo, Sorenson was at Regal giving out free T-shirts to the first 320 customers going to see a movie that was open-captioned at the time. If those customers attended the Deaf Expo with those T-shirts, they would be entered into the raffle for the 52" television. I didn't know about this movie thing cuz I had class! Argh! *bangs head on keyboard*

Oh well, I enjoyed it anyway. I got myself a new pager holster. It certainly beats the old torn beat-up holster I got from T-Mobile.

Any of you go?
