I don't know where to put this q, anyone can be educated with it. I recently, met a deaf/blind friend. I would like to know the proper way to approach a deaf/blind person? For example, if he's sitting down drinking a juice and I want to let him know it is me?

someone mentioned about tactile signs too. It depends on what individual prefers.

For the deaf-blind population, very individual is truly unique in his/her preferences, mode of communication, etc. The best thing is to gently approach the person and learn through trial-and-error about his/her communication mode and then ask that person directly about his/her needs and start talking. Some of my closest friends are deaf-blind. One uses tactile signing, one uses only speech (he has an amplification system he uses), and the other uses only Braille on his palm. One thing I HATE is when people talk to the SSP or the interpreter about the deaf-blind person in his/her presence. That's so rude.

Oh my god....last May of this year I had the second of third interview with general manager at Target which interpreter did not show up, when we discussed about rescheduling an interview and she asked (as she wrote it down) what kind of communication needs of an interpreter - SEE, ASL, Cued Speech or Tactile? I was like, uh ASL. Did she recognize me as deaf with vision loss?? WTF.
