Deaf Awareness Week events
Saturday: Kick-off event 5-7 p.m. at Chesterfield Family Center, 2511 W. Republic Road. The public is invited. $2 cost per person includes swimming, pizza and drinks.
Sunday: Open-captioned movie "Accepted" (PG-13) at 1:30 p.m., Campbell 16 theater, 4005 South Ave. Also playing at 7:30 p.m. Monday night. Call 890-8457.
Tuesday: Family Fun Night, 7-9 p.m. at Paint Games Plus, 1411 W. Kearney St. Cost is $3.75 per person for Laser Tag, mini-golf and batting cages. Call 866-8862.
Thursday: Free performance by deaf mime J.J. Jones, 7 p.m. at Parkview High School auditorium, 516 W. Meadowmere St. Jones will conduct a free workshop for deaf and hard of hearing kids 10 a.m.-noon Thursday at Parkview Christian Church, 1362 S. Campbell Ave.
Sept. 29: Annual Deaf Picnic, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Phelps Grove Park, Bennett Street west of National Avenue. Free food, games, door prizes. The public is invited to come out and socialize with the deaf community.
