Deaf ASL Teacher's perspective on ASL song(interpretation)

I agree what david's opinions. I am often asked by hearing people about song. i was like do teacher teach like this?????

I really wish I understood more ASL so I knew what he was saying. Ah well, I am working on it.

Kristina Im sorry that i couldnt find the subtitle for this. He was talking about any ASL teachers are suppose to teach asl students to learn about what language, deaf culture etc but not teaching them how to sign in song. Those song's words are english that isn't helping asl students to understand about deaf culture at all. Its too many for teachers to allow that happen when asl students want the good grade but sign in english.

Thank you for this. That's almost why I don't pay too much attention to a lot of the YouTube videos in ASL, since I have heard from a lot of people that they are not really in ASL or they are not always correct in their signing.

I did watch the video. This is what he wanted to make an opinion on the ASL in the classroom. He was talking about what was the proper way to sign in the classroom for song/interpretation and the use of ASL both inside and outside of the classroom. He is thinking of two different ways in the classroom and out side of the classrooms. He is not against song/interpretation but he was just trying to make a point on the song while the hearing interpreter is explaining in the song. The hearing have their culture differently than we do as we are use to being in Deaf Culture. For the hearing, song is an art and for the Deaf, it is a language. We are not that great with songs or music as we are deaf meaning that we can not hear the words and the music notes. But that is his opinion. Am I getting to you correctly? :hmm:

just his opinion as hes an asl teacher to see others teachers approach of teaching ASL methods.
He is also talking about if asl students want to understand deaf culture rather than focusing on getting a good grade by using song that is convenient for them, not being in the image of deaf culture. Some asl teachers allows asl student to sign in song. He d not want that even though, he is not againsting the idea of teaching ASL method but how can they learn about deaf language, deaf culture and go on.
