DAY OF SILENCE, April 18, 2007: The Day of Silence is an annual event held to bring attention to anti-LGBT bullying, harassment and discrimination in schools. Students and teachers nationwide will observe the day in silence to echo the silence that LGBT and ally students face everyday. In it's 11th year, the Day of Silence is one of the largest student-led actions in the country.
My school did this today. There was about 30 students who were not suppose to talk but about 27 of them did. I am proud to say I still haven't talked today. Alot of people did it just to not talk not taking a meaning of what it really was. I also got treated really rude by the teacher of our GSA because I didn't sign-up for GSA and I forgot to sign up for the event but i came with a home made shirt on and wanted to do it to stand up for me and my friends. It was a really cool day though and We got through to alot of people. Alot of people learned alot more about the GLBT community and the challenges people of the GLBT community face.
Did anyone else participate in the DAY OF SILENCE?
