My 5 year old daughter got her surgery date today. It will be October 10th. I am terrified but I am sure everything will be ok.

Mom to Miss Kat- 5, bilateral progressive loss, just became severe-profound (on our way to a right side AB)

Wishing her best of luck and a speedy recovery! I am sure she will be fine.

Woohoo! Yay! What hospital here and surgeon doing the surgery? Are they doing in Ogden or Salt Lake perhaps? Good Luck and prayers to your daughter ma'am.

She is getting it done by Dr. Shelton at Primary Children's. Her audiologist is Cache Pitt in Logan. We live in the Valley and have to drive an hour 45 minutes to see him, but I would never let anyone else MAP her, he's the best.

WOOHOO!!!!!! Just a word of advice from someone who's been there and done that in terms of surgery. Make the build-up to the surgery fun.....like some kids find medical stuff boring or painful. Do like a countdown or something!

Dr Shelton, excellent choice there :) when you get chance ask him if he ever does surgeries at Shriners Hospital, I swear I saw him their before. I will unlikely run into him, but some days I am up at the University and strove over to PCH (cuz the food is so much better there LOL)

Way to go! so so so congratulations to you and melissa! I would love for shelton to invite me as his assist on CI surgery, but I have known the operating theatre is not for me due to the precision of the communication that must take place and the timing of it.

Good Luck, Been through myself, It was a doodle/painless... Little kids bounces back quicker than you think!
Make sure you tell your daughter what to expect.
Ask the implant company (is she having Advanced bioincs?) if you could have the cuddly toy pre op as they have a pretend removable processor on them which would be easy way of explaining to Kat.

Wishing you and your daughter all the best. I know how frightening it is to turn a child over to a surgeon. Hard to relinquish that control as a parent. If you need to talk, feel free to PM me.
