hi.

Im dani's mom. She is a 3 yr old that is severly hoh. I joined this site to learn more about her world or what someday it may be. She has bil hot pink hearing aids. She attends a hearing impaired school all day while i am at work. she has 2 sisters both hearing. her dad and i are both hearing also. She didn't pass her newborn hearing screening 2 times so we were sent to an ENT and audiologist locally. They did several test and decided she could hear. her speech didn't develop properly. I took her to the pediatrician he started speech therapy. She didn't progress like she should so we saw another ent. She refered on both ears. we then saw a specialist to find out what type of loss she had. She has a mod to severe neuro sensory hearing loss. She hears about 60-80 decibles without her aids and with them she hears 30-40 decibles. she is communicating with signed english and verbally of course her words are not very plain but i can understand her.

Hi, Dani's mom and Dani! Happy to see your post! :)

AWESOME! Wish there were more parents like you out there! I also have a moderately severe loss. (althou conductive)
Are you hooked up with the American Society for Deaf Children? Are you satisfied with the schooling she's getting? She's so lucky to be able to attend a deaf school. What about speech therapy? Is the speech program good at her school? Sometimes, schools for the Deaf that use Sign, may not be as good at providing quality speech therapy. And welcome! We have a ton of parents of dhh kids who post here already! I'm in a bit of a hurry now, but if you want info on ASDC I'll post it later.

Welcome DAni's Mom and Dani

:applause::applause:

I am glad to a woderful parent like you wanting to understand .

:welcome: to AD! Glad that you are using sign language with her. :)

What school does she go to? A Deaf school or a program that has deaf/hoh children?

Welcome! I wish my parents would have been as open as you are when i was small. Enjoy the stay.

Welcome, Dani's mom! (I have a niece named Dani!) Glad to hear that you are continuing to use sign with your daughter. Enjoy your stay here. Good to know that you are venturing into the world of Deaf.deaf adults to better understand your daughter's world! Very openminded of you!

Indeed jillo, especially since Dani is "only" hoh. Hoh kids tend to be pushed towards maximum mainstreaming. It's wonderful to hear that there are some hoh kids (who aren't DODA) getting exposure to Sign and Deaf culture!

Yes, indeed! Very encouraging.
